Sophomore All-State Team in 2024

With the 2024 season almost wrapped up, we look at their performance on film to identify who made an impact and will continue to do so. Here are ten sophomores to watch as they progress in their high school careers. These prospects have been named Sophomore All-State by Prep Redzone Arkansas.    On December 3, [player_tooltip player_id='594778' first='Slade' last='Norwood'] won our Top Underclassman award. Today, he was named to the Sophomore All-State team. As mentioned before, he is one of the top young quarterbacks in Arkansas and is expected to be a standout prospect in the state over the next few seasons. "In 2024, he completed 173 of 298 passes (58%) for 2,830 yards, with 35 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. He demonstrates good footwork in the pocket, maintaining a strong and balanced base while stepping into his throws and utilizing good torque through his hips to generate velocity.   Norwood possesses good arm strength and accuracy at all levels of the field, effectively leading his receivers with keen anticipation. He consistently places the ball well and shows the ability to layer his throws with good touch. His processing of coverages and blitzes, both pre-snap and post-snap, results in sound decision-making within the pocket and impressive poise under pressure." He rushed 197 times for 1,526 yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry, and scored 21 touchdowns. Additionally, he recorded 61 receptions for 911 yards and 9 touchdowns.   Stephens is an elusive running back with very good athleticism, characterized by his impressive speed, foot quickness, balance, explosiveness, lateral agility, and change of direction (COD). He demonstrates good post-snap vision, allowing him to read first- and second-level defenders effectively. His ability to identify run lanes on zone runs, combined with his mental processing and patience, helps him follow his lead blocker on inside gap runs.   Due to his lateral agility and balance, Stephens is adept at making multi-cut movements, which enable him to quickly plant his foot and accelerate upfield, bursting through openings to reach the second level. His breakaway speed at that level is particularly noteworthy. With strong hands and good hand-eye coordination, he poses a significant threat in the receiving game, showcasing the ability to outmaneuver linebackers with his fluid route running. He demonstrates solid athletic ability and impressive physicality at the point of attack. Sturdivant shows good initial quickness off the snap and exhibits effective pass protection in all pass sets including vertical, 45 and jump. This is due to his good hand placement, upper and lower body strength, as well as his balance and lateral agility, which allow him to mirror defenders effectively.   He also displays a strong anchor, due to his good lower body strength, UOH, balance, solid core strength, and the ability to bend and control the opposition. In the run game, he demonstrates good footwork and angles, which enable him to get out in space during pulls and zone runs. His leg drive is also notable, allowing him to displace defenders consistently. He is a dynamic player capable of making plays across the field, and you can expect him to rise in our rankings in the next update. Brownlee played sideline to sideline, demonstrating his impressive motor and good angles. He displays strong read-and-react abilities, consistently positioning himself to make tackles in space or arrive at the catch point. Brownlee effectively attacks and fills gaps while maintaining a square stance and showing good physicality at the point of attack. This young prospect should be quickly added to your board. In 2024, he demonstrated his skills as a true ball hawk, recording 7 interceptions and 5 pass breakups (PBUs). Additionally, he made 32 tackles, with 20 of those being solo efforts. Young shows good read-and-react ability, effectively attacking downhill against the run with good angles and physicality at the point of attack. He also excels in making plays on the ball, arriving at the catch point in time to force either a pass breakup or an interception.
