In a holiday tradition that is just getting started, I wanted to reach out with a handful of up-and-coming gunslinger quarterbacks who caught my eye earlier in the year.

In this report we will take a look at some of the promising quarterbacks from throughout the state and from different class levels, who are positioned to dominate in the up-coming 2025 season.

All of the guys below are starting to make a name for themselves and looking to make that next quantum leap in leadership, intangibles and skill set improvement.

Some of these guys I reported on earlier in the 2024 season. At the time I had made a note to circle back and check their progress at the close of the season.

Which brings us here.

So, without further adieu, lets take a look at the "2024 Holiday Underclassmen QB's".

Freshmen:

[player_tooltip player_id='1083571' first='Braxton' last='Wagner'], 6'1, 185, QB, BV North, '28, is ranked #3 overall and #1 QB in the 2028 class, and is one of the top quarterbacks in the Kansas City area regardless of class and did not disappoint when he hit the gridiron this past fall. He is a rising star on a great trajectory and has all the tools to take it to another level. With his powerful arm and supporting passing mechanics he can make all the throws, at any level. He is also a talented dual-threat who can run like a tailback in the RPO or throw surgical strikes on the move. He is already on the D1 fast track, as he just visited K-Sate and has already been to KU and Nebraska this season for visits. He is also a multiple-sport prospect who plays baseball and basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1075837' first='Tevin' last='Cotter'] , QB, 6'0”, 180, Liberal, ‘28, is ranked #5 overall and #2 QB in the 2028 class, he was one of the rare larger school freshman starting quarterbacks this past season and when the dust had settled, he was on his way to making a name for himself. In leading the Redskins to a 6-3 record, he completed 73 of 129 passes for just under 1,200 yards for a 57% completion percentage, 11 touchdowns to only a half dozen picks for a solid 96.0 passer rating. He came out of the blocks fast, leading his team to a 70-6 victory in his first varsity game, while firing a pair of TD's and added a rushing touchdown. He finished the year strong as well, going 26-41 for 300+ yards and a pair of scores in the final two games. After a good start, the sky's the limit for this kid.

Sophomores:

[player_tooltip player_id='1530360' first='Brody' last='Comfort'] – 5'10”, 180, QB, Olathe NW, '27, is coming off a solid season leading Olathe Northwest to the Regional Round as a young gun dual-threat quarterback and standout punter. For the season he completed 62 of 124 passes for just under a thousand yards and eight touchdowns to only a pair of picks. He also gained 200 yards rushing to give him just under 1,100 yards running and passing and 11 total TD's. For his efforts, he was awarded as an honorable mention all state quarterback. He is also a standout special team's performer and was one of the top punters in the state, punting 14 times for a 41-yard average, with a long of 70 yards and seven pinned inside the 20. After a breakout season he is going to make some noise in '25.

[player_tooltip player_id='1445596' first='Justice' last='Criniere'] , 6'0 175, QB, CPA-Lenexa '27, is another young stud in the making who really caught my eye earlier in the season when he was slicing and dicing defenses seemingly every week. On the year he completed 94 of 166 passes for 1,543 yards, for a 57% completion percentage, 24 touchdown passes and impressively, only six picks and a sparkling 113 passer rating. He also picked up 521 yards on the ground and another 13 TD's to give him an eye-popping 37 touchdowns on the year. This kid can make all the throws, from quick strikes to deep velocity throws and floats a beautiful long ball. He passes well moving in either direction and has good ball placement even off platform when extending plays. Get your popcorn out for him in '25.

Juniors:

[player_tooltip player_id='1664431' first='Savion' last='Stone'], 6'3, 210, QB, KC Washington, '26 – is coming off a great junior year after completing 86 of 150 passes for 1,250 yards, a 57% completion percentage, 12 TD passes and only six picks for a solid 96.0 passer rating. He gained 1,039 yards on the ground to make him of one of the rare QB's in the state with 1,000+ yards in both rushing and passing yards, to give him 2,300+ yards, 22 TD's total. He was also named honorable mention all state. He is a big, fast athletic dual-threat who can beat you with his legs or his arm and is starting to get some serious interest from scouts and coaches. Definitely get him on your watchlist for the coming year if you haven't already. .

[player_tooltip player_id='904445' first='Zane' last='Viegra'] , 6'3, 190, Hays, '26. is coming off a season of up's and down's as he and his teammates went to the 6A Title game where they lost to a strong Gardner Edgerton team. It was also frustrating, as he was finally getting a chance to show his stuff in the playoffs when the starting quarterback went down. However, after leading the team to a score, he took a hit in the red zone going in for another, resulting in a broken tibia that ended his season for good. Since then he has bounced back and is going through rehab to be ready for 7v7. He has a next-level frame and is athletic with an arm that he has been working hard in the off season with Coach Cagle and MPA. Watchout for his comeback in 2025..

In conclusion, get these guys on your watchlist and follow their progress in the off season as they prepare for their junior seasons. And, as always, if you across a player or team you think deserves coverage and is not getting it give me a shout via DM on X.
