GHSA 1A Div 2 Championship: Game Log/Stats/Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Bowdon Red Devils (12-2) take on the Brooks County Trojans (10-4) for the Class A D2 Title. Bowdon is looking to 3-Peat as Champs and Brooks County is looking for their 1st Title since 2021. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Scroll down for Quarter by Quarter recap/stats/standouts</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>1st Quarter</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A defensive shootout early in the 1st Quarter as both teams tried to settle their nerves and get their footing. The 1st 5 possessions would end with punts or turnover on downs before the offenses took over with a couple of big plays to end the 1st Q. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bowdon would get on the scoreboard 1st with a 48 TD run from Senior RB <strong>Nat Bhony</strong> who would take the handoff and race around the right end for score to put the Red Devils up 7-0 with 2:48 to play in the quarter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brooks County answered back on their next possession with a couple of good throws from Soph QB <strong>Junior Burris</strong>. The 1st was 26 yard completion to Senior <strong>Denzell Brown</strong> followed by a 47-yd scoring strike to Senior <strong>Camauri Brinson</strong> to knot the game 7-7 to end the 1st Q. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>2nd Quarter</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brooks County offense dominated most of the 2nd Q starting with their 1st possession. After a short Bowdon punt, the Trojans marched 48 yards on 7 plays culminating in a 18 yard TD pass from <strong>Burris </strong>to Soph standout WR <strong>George Lamons</strong>, who broke several tackles to get into the endzone. Brooks Co would hold a 14-7 lead for most of the 2nd Q. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bowdon got a gift late in the Quarter when Soph <strong>Connor Daniel</strong> recovered a fumble on the Brooks County 13 yard line with 1:33 to play before the half. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Junior RB <strong>Josh Davis</strong> would score from 2 yards out with 24 seconds left in the half. Bowdon took its first lead of the game with 4:45 left in the Quarter on a 43-yard TD pass from Sr <strong>Charles Maxell</strong> to Junior WR/TE<strong> [player_tooltip player_id='908935' first='Kaiden' last='Prothro']</strong>. <strong><em>Bowdon 19 Brooks Co 14</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brooks Co put together a good drive on their next possession but would fumble the ball away on the Bowdon 12 yard line late in the quarter. Maryville commit <strong>Jackson Edwards</strong> would recover the fumble leading to the start of an 83 yard drive for the Red Devils. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>4th Quarter</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was all Bowdon in the 4th Q. Junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='401521' first='Jonah' last='Wilson']</strong> would cap a 15 play 83 yard drive with a 2 yard scoring TD giving the Red Devils a 27-14 lead with 6 to play.<strong> Josh Davis</strong> would add a 67-yd TD run late in the quarter to put the cap on the final score<strong> 34-14</strong> and give Bowdon their 3rd consecutive Title. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Final: Bowdon 34 Brooks County 14</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Standouts: </em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='908935' first='Kaiden' last='Prothro']</em></strong> (Bowdon): The 6'6 4-star WR had 3 catches for 92 yards including a 43 yard TD catch he went up and caught between 2 defenders. The Class of 2026 showed why he will be one of the hottest recruits in the State this offseason. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1563121' first='Marquis' last='Williams'] </em></strong>(Brooks Co): The West Georgia DL commit was making plays all over the field. The 6'3 230 All State DL finished the game with 9 TT with a sack and was a presence all night in the Red Devil backfield. Solid high motor guy that will be a big addition in Carrollton next season for the Wolves. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>George Lamons</em></strong> (Brooks Co): This was my first time seeing Lamons live and he lives up to the potential 5-star billing. Strong kid with great hands and is almost impossible to tackle in the open field. The 6'4 ATH (Soph) had 4 catches for 81 yards including a 18 yard TD run where he dragged a couple of defenders into the endzone. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Nate Bhony</em></strong> (Bowdon): The lighting portion of the Red Devils Thunder and Lighting combo on the evening. The 5'7 170 back was tough to stop when he got around the edge. He finished the game with 19 carries for 130 yards including a 47 yard TD. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Josh Davis</em></strong> (Bowdon): The Thunder portion of the combo, Davis is built to run the ball North South but showed with a 67-yard score to ice the game that he also posses speed. The Junior RB finished the game with 11 carries for 107 yards and a TD.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em><strong>Dylan McGrinn</strong></em> (Bowdon): The 5'10 180 lead the Red Devils in tackles with 12. McGrinn has a nose for the football and finished the season with over 150 TT. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Amarjae Mitchell</em></strong> (Brooks County): The 6'0 senior finished his high school career on a high note leading the Trojans with 14 TT. The multisport athlete had over 90 TT this season for the Trojans and although slight in size, 140 pounds or so, the kid can tackle. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Charles Maxell</em></strong> (Bowdon): The Senior QB took over in the 2nd Half controlling the game with his feet. Maxell finished with 164 total yards with no turnovers. Great student that will be a great addition to a high academic school next Fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Others:</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Great OL for the Red Devils with 6'4 315 Soph<strong> John Harden</strong>, 6'3 Senio<strong>r Xavier Simmons</strong>, Maryville commit<strong> Jackson Edwards</strong> and 6'0 <strong>Malykie Vickers </strong>who has a non stop motor. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brooks County Sophomore QB <strong>Junior Burris</strong> has a good future ahead with the Trojans. The 2 year starter has good touch and passed for 179 yards and 2 TDs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
