The senior is a very poised and accurate passer in the pocket that gets the ball out quick, can diagnose defenses quickly and shows he can fit the ball into tight windows vertically and underneath. Rutherford is a no brainer high level D3+ caliber prospect that should be able to find a home at the next level. In the 5-AA state title game against El Capitan he did an excellent job managing the game from under center and was able to make plays both through the air and with his legs when needed. He ended the season with his best performance in the state title game, throwing for 300 yards and 3 scores and answered the call when it mattered most. His dual threat abilities make him tough to game-plan for and he has elite escape-ability tools and a strong and accurate arm downfield. In the state title game against Portola, he carried the Tigers through four quarters and ended the contest with 150 yards passing with 1 TD, and had another 118 yards rushing and 3 TD's. He has been leading the Pacers for the past few seasons and taken them to multiple state titles, Norcal titles and SJS Section Titles in his time there while winning no shortage of big time games in the post-season. He had another strong showing against one of the top teams in the state in Pacifica of Oxnard and threw for over 300 yards and 3 scores including a game winning throw he put on a rope as time was running down.
