<p>Anytime a quarterback gets game-time action as a freshman it is exciting. If the young QB is mature enough to start as a frosh it is a big deal, particularly at the larger classification schools. And, if he starts and excels at the varsity level right out of the gate it is a huge deal, worthy of some early attention.</p>

<p>The Sunflower state has a number of quarterbacks in the class of 2028 who fit the bill above and others who played other positions while biding time until starters graduate. </p>

<p>In this report we will take a look at some of the top young-gun quarterbacks who are off to a good start to their high school careers, so get them on your watchlist.</p>

<p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1075837' first='Tevin' last='Cotter'], 6'0, 180, QB, Liberal '28, </em></strong><em>is ranked #5 overall and is the #2-ranked quarterback</em>. He didn't waste any time getting going as he led Liberal to a 70-6 victory in his first game, firing a pair of TD passes and added a rushing touchdown to give him three total TD's in his debut. On the season he passed 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns and led his team into the playoffs where they fell to Hutchinson.</p>

<p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1147299' first='Holden' last='Ferralez'], 5'10, 150, QB, Sedgwick '28</em></strong>, <em>is ranked #6, as an ATH/QB and is the #4-ranked athlete (ATH)</em>. He backed up all-state senior <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1112380' first='Corey' last='Crumrine']</em></strong>, so he didn't get a lot of reps but was outstanding when he did, completing seven of nine passes for a sizzling 78% completion percentage. In JV action he was almost unstoppable. In his final <em>two games</em> completed 24 of 35 passes for 619 yards and nine TD's, to go along with 297 yards rushing on only 23 carries and another seven touchdowns. <em>En Fuego</em> to say the least...</p>

<p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1542931' first='Trenton' last='Schartz'], 6'2, 195, QB, Ellis '28</em></strong>, i<em>s ranked #15 overall and is the #3-ranked quarterback. </em>He was also the top passer in the freshman class, completing 85 of 186 passes for 1,326 yards and an impressive 24 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 635 yards on on 108 carries, averaging six yards a carry and scoring 13 TD's. For the season, the dual-threat ace piled up just under 2,000 total yards and 37 touchdowns - eye-popping numbers for a freshman.</p>

<p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1433319' first='Cooper' last='Cranston'], 6'0, 180. QB, Holcomb '28</em></strong>,<em> is ranked #16 overall and is the #4-ranked quarterback.</em> Backing up senior standout <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1398426' first='Keegan' last='Johnson']</em></strong>, he didn't get many QB reps but he kept plenty busy during his freshman year. He completed six of nine passes for 47 yards on the year and also added 143 yards rushing on 16 carries, and caught 15 passes for 353 yards for 545 total yards and seven TD's. He also had 66 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions.</p>

<p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1487563' first='Colton' last='Elmore'], 5'10, 165, QB, Wellington '28</em></strong>, <em>is ranked #34 overall and is the #5-ranked quarterback.</em> He backed up senior gunslinger <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1112386' first='Dusty' last='Bannister']</em></strong>, one of the top passing quarterbacks in the state this year. When he got in he worked the Wellington offense well, completing five of nine passes for 42 yards and a touchdown strike. He will be counted on to continue the Crusader tradition of producing top-notch QB's.</p>
