DeSmet vs SLUH Rematch: Offense by the Numbers

DeSmet hosted MCC rival SLUH for a rematch Friday, November 15th at 7pm. Last season the Billikens made the District Final interesting by only losing to the Spartans by 6 points (19-13). This year like any other year, the seniors are not ready to hand in their equipment so it was a battle like no other, at least in the first quarter of play. SLUH was feeling good coming off a big win last week making their record 7-4. Where DeSmet had to do their best to stay focused on the task at hand before hoping to get another shot at MCC rival CBC next week. Winning Friday 35-0 in shutout fashion makes a statement to who is next in line. Kirkwood won a shocking victory over the Cadets. So they will be on the road next week versus Rock Bridge. The Spartans are a very good football team with big named individuals, and a focused staff that are 9-2 right now. I believe the offense will set the tone and the defense will keep points off the board during the remainder of the season. Here is a closer look at last weeks matchups.   QB Dillon Duff (25')- Mobile signal caller with a sling. Can make all the throws and finds receivers open by extending plays with legs. A huge competitor who will need to take control next week in the huddle to keep the momentum in their favor the next couple of games to claim State.   Game 1 vs SLUH- 7/16, 130 yds, 2 tds   Game 2 vs SLUH- 8/20, 129 yds, 1 td   Season- 2258 yds, 21 tds, 5 ints     RB Jayden McCaster (26')- Athletic running back that gets involved in the passing game as well. Helps in protecting his QB in the pocket, but is best suited by running routes to get check down balls for big gains. Shifty, quick, explosive power has to be on display next week to keep defense on toes.   Game 1 vs SLUH- 128 tot yds, 1 td   Game 2 vs SLUH- 119 tot yds, 2 tds   Season- 1372 tot yds, 12 tds     TE [player_tooltip player_id='374501' first='Liam' last='Russo'] (25')- Big body target that can block and move in space. Russo is a luxury at this spot and would create mismatches when releasing up the seam for easy pitch and catch throws to soften box for the run game.   Game 1 vs SLUH- 41 yards, 1 td   Season- 423 yards, 5 tds     WR [player_tooltip player_id='1124869' first='Nathan' last='Hatcher'] (25')- Play maker who can find room across the field or behind the safeties when allowed time to work. Chunks of yards have to come from Nate taking chances and keeping the mesh with his QB.   Game 1 vs SLUH- did not play   Game 2 vs SLUH- 2 catches, 24 yds   Season- 776 yards, 7 tds   Rock Bridge hosts Desmet 11/23 at 1pm.
