Conditions were ripe for the run game last Friday and the Warriors leaned heavily on their star to pick up a huge region win over rival Macon County. Pinion is known for running the ball but to produce 194 yards and three touchdowns within rough weather against a regional foe is some impressive stuff. The Warriors senior quarterback is a hard nosed competitor that produces at a high level almost every time he steps onto the field. His team definitely needed Pinion's ability to run the ball last week in what was going to be a game that offense was hard to come by. This win over Macon Co. has playoff ramifications too as the Warriors might have secured a second place finish within their region.

Even though his Dragons team fell in defeat, Maddox had a stellar game and a near unstoppable performance against Oak Ridge. This junior wideout caught just about everything thrown his way while displaying a variety of skills that translate well to the college game. His size and speed were difference makers versus the Wildcats defense. Maddox is a big dude that moves well while also sporting a good frame to pack on more weight. The Dragons pass catcher has been putting up big numbers consistently throughout the season and I expect it to remain that way the rest of the year.

Stein has been a steady performer all year for his Wildcats team and last week in their region win over Dickson Co., the Wildcats senior linebacker produced his best game yet where he was a force within the Cougars backfield all night long. Not only did Stein produce a lot of tackles versus the run but he did excellent work against the pass as well where he landed two sacks on the night. Clarksville currently sits undefeated and at the top of their region with Stein and their defense being a big reason why. Look for this senior linebacker to be in contention for All-State honors by season's end.

O-line of the Week

Beech Buccaneers

- Last Saturday at home, the Buccaneers offensive line made their presence known early and often as they opened up holes all afternoon for Swafford and the Beech ball carriers. The Beech front five doesn't have a lot of big names ([player_tooltip player_id='1369247' first='Jack' last='Fuchs'] is one to watch) but they play together and work extra hard to do their jobs precisely. Not only did they open holes for Swafford, they did a good job of protecting [player_tooltip player_id='866718' first='Kaden' last='Powell'] and keeping Hendersonville defenders off his back. This unit has been steady all year long and I don't expect that to change down the back half of the season.

Team of the Week

Stewarts Creek RedHawks

- The biggest win of the season for Stewarts Creek took place last week on the road where they defeated Antioch, 26-7 in what could be a region title victory. The Red Hawks and Bears are the top two teams within their region but with Stewarts Creek coming out on top last week, I feel the region title is theirs. Against the Bears, the run game for the Red Hawks was on point but it was the play of [player_tooltip player_id='1130991' first='Jonathan' last='Waller'] and their defense that stole the show. They produced multiple turnovers that killed drives or added points to the scoreboard. It was a great win for this program and a litmus test that showed that Stewarts Creek could be legit.

Positional Players of the Week

QB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='220692' first='Hutson' last='Chance'] - CPA

- The Lions senior quarterback was efficient and clean in last week's victory over Goodpasture. Chance has performed very well as a new starter this year where he has placed his name in the mix for Mr. Football consideration by the end of the regular season.

RB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='800803' first='Chelton' last='Swafford'] - Beech ‘26

- Swafford took full advantage of every carry he had in last week's region win over rival Hendersonville. The Bucs junior ball carrier torched the Commandos defense for over 200 yards on the day, providing those big play abilities that pushed the Buccaneers to victory.

WR POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='219345' first='Jaylen' last='Mosley'] - Jackson Christian

- Each and every week, Mosley puts up big game after big game with last Friday being yet another one. He produced two touchdowns through the air while adding another one on the ground during the Eagles commanding victory over Tipton-Rosemark.

Stats: 6 rec. for 134 yds & 2 TD's (2 carr. 30 yds & 1 TD)

DL POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1142885' first='Isaiah' last='Lackey'] - Sheffield

- It was a quiet start to the 2024 season for Lackey but the senior D-lineman is starting to come on! Last week in the Knights commanding win over Hillcrest, Lackey was all over the Vikings backfield making plays both against the run and rushing the passer.

Stats: 7 tcks, 4 TFL, 1 FF, 1 FR & 1 sack

- - -

LB POTW: Joseph Myers - Collierville

- The Dragons had a fight on their hands last week versus region foe Collierville where the defense was very much needed. Myers was a huge factor on that side of the ball that made several big plays throughout the contest that pushed the Dragons to victory.

Stats: 9 tcks, 2 TFL, 1 sack & 1 blocked FG

- - -

DB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1516009' first='Bo' last='Wright'] - Clinton

- Wright didn't intercept the ball or force any fumbles but the fact that he produced 23 tackles from his safety position is very impressive. Even though his team lost to Oak Ridge, Wright did everything he could to keep his team in the game by making tackles from any and everywhere on the field.

Stats: 23 total tackles
