Recap & Top Prospects: Ida B. Wells vs. Lincoln

On Friday, October 18th, I attended the Ida B. Wells Guardians versus the Lincoln Cardinals football game at Ida B. Wells high school in Portland, Oregon. The Guardians defeated the Cardinals with a final score of 46-16 in 6A Friday night lights action.   In this article, I did a game recap and analyzed some of the top performers from Friday's game. Some Outstanding Players from the Game:    [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler'] is a 5'10” 200-pound senior running back and fullback for the Ida B. Wells Guardians. Andler was undoubtedly the most standout player from Friday's bout between the Guardians and the Cardinals. He is a sizable back who is really fast and explosive. Andler's quickness made him truly stand out. [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler'] tallied 116 yards and scored three touchdowns on just 13 carries. Andler also ran for a two-point conversion. He averaged a solid 8.9 yards per carry against Lincoln. Andler had a breakout game, making his impact known. The biggest play that [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler'] had on Friday was a 50-yard touchdown run that he scored with 3:53 left in the first half. I'm excited to continue to watch Andler's growth. College scouts and coaches should definitely put [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler'] on their radar.     [player_tooltip player_id='1569369' first='Cam' last='Hammer'] is a 5'10” 165-pound senior running back and MLB for Ida B. Wells. Hammer was another Guardian who had a tremendous performance against Lincoln. He had two touchdowns. His final statline was eight carries for 142 yards, one rushing TD and one catch which was a 23-yard touchdown. Hammer averaged an impressive 17.75 yards per carry against Lincoln. [player_tooltip player_id='1569369' first='Cam' last='Hammer'] is a versatile athlete who is one of the Guardian's best ball carriers. He made some huge plays, including a first half run where he showed a burst of speed.     [player_tooltip player_id='936846' first='Leonardo' last='Correani'] is a 5'11” 210-pound sophomore linebacker and running back for Lincoln. He's an explosive and versatile athlete who made a notable impact on the offensive end for Lincoln. Correani recorded 40 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. He also caught two passes for 10 yards and had five tackles. [player_tooltip player_id='936846' first='Leonardo' last='Correani'] is another quick and shifty back who is quite talented. As just a sophomore in the class of 2027, Correani currently has a pretty complete game with plenty of time to improve. Watch out for Correani this season.     [player_tooltip player_id='904424' first='Brady' last='Holland'] is a 6'3” 305-pound senior defensive lineman, guard, center and long snapper. Holland is a sizable athlete who's extremely stout and strong. His unreal strength sets him apart from his competition. [player_tooltip player_id='904424' first='Brady' last='Holland'] also excels at a variety of positions, making him quite versatile. Holland made some big stops on the defensive end against the Guardians. Keep your eyes on Lincoln's [player_tooltip player_id='904424' first='Brady' last='Holland'] this season. He definitely has what it takes to succeed at the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='531318' first='AJ' last='Reverman'] is a 6'2” 195-pound senior tight end and linebacker. Reverman showed off his elite hands and athleticism against the Guardians. He made an outstanding grab in the third quarter that impressed the crowd. Reverman is one of the most athletic players on Lincoln's roster. He's also quite strong. Expect [player_tooltip player_id='531318' first='AJ' last='Reverman'] to continue to have a notable impact this season for the Lincoln Cardinals.    The Ida B. Wells Guardians were seemingly unstoppable under the Friday night lights last week. They jumped out to a 8-0 lead to start the game off early in the first quarter. At the end of the first, the Guardians led the Cardinals with a 16-0 score. With 11 minutes left in the second quarter, Lincoln turned the ball over from turnover on downs on Ida B wells 40 yard line. Lincoln's lack of defense is what ultimately caused them this loss. The Guardians dominated in the first half. They notched an unanswered 40 points going into the break, making the halftime score 40-0. Ida B. Wells additionally converted on every single two-point attempt that they took in the first half. Ida B. Wells slowed down a bit in the second half. The Guardians scored just one touchdown in the second half, compared to the five that they put up in the opening half. Lincoln had some answers in the second half, but they couldn't muster enough firepower on the offensive end to overtake Ida B. Wells. A majority of the Guardians' scoring came from running backs [player_tooltip player_id='1569369' first='Cam' last='Hammer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler']. Hammer and Andler combined for 281 yards and five touchdowns. They were the dynamic duo that propelled the Guardians to a huge home win over Lincoln. All three of [player_tooltip player_id='511865' first='Wyatt' last='Andler']'s touchdowns came in the first half. The Ida B. Wells Guardians are now 5-2 on the season, and 5-0 in league play. They are ranked as the #15 6A team by OSAA, while Lincoln are 25th place in the 6A standings. The Lincoln Cardinals are now 4-3 overall, and 3-2 in league play. The Cardinals now sit at one game above .500. Although the Lincoln Cardinals were unable to muster a big enough comeback to win, they didn't allow the Guardians to shut them out. The Ida B. Wells Guardians defeated the Lincoln Cardinals with a 46-16 final.
