Mooresville at Providence - Defensive Standouts

The Mooresville Blue Devils rode a strong defense and an efficient offense to an 18-6 road non-conference victory over the Providence Panthers this Friday Night. There were standout players from both defenses that we will highlight in this breakdown here.    Jamari was my defensive player of the game. Jamari imposed his will defensively for the Blue Devils with several big hits and was all over the field. He caused a safety in the second quarter with a big hit on the Providence QB in the end zone. Jamari also helped out on Special Teams, running a fake punt for a 1st down to help put the game away in the 4th quarter. He made an interception when the Providence offense was in the red zone, keeping points off the board at a point where the game was still close in the 1st half. AJ also imposed his will physically with a big hit on a Providence WR in open space. The Delaware commit helped hold down a dangerous passing game to only 6 points in the game.     I thought KJ had a very impressive game overall. KJ was one of the Mooresville defenders who constantly was putting pressure on Providence's QB and never letting them find a consistent offensive rhythm. Specifically, KJ had an impressive sack/fumble play that helped thwart one of the last chances Providence had offensively in the game. KJ did a good job of shedding blocks and getting penetration in the run game as well. KJ has multiple Division 1 offers and showed in this game he is a legitimate college football prospect.     Tanner played a good game as one of the linebackers in the middle of the field. Tanner played a key role in shutting down the running game of Providence, as they could never get anything really established at all. I also thought Tanner did a good job of playing pass coverage from his linebacker spot as well.     The middle linebacker did a good job in controlling the Mooresville running game for the majority of the game. I liked Colton's physicality especially in taking on blocks from offensive linemen in the zone-based scheme of the Blue Devils. Colton made a good number of secure tackles in the middle of the field and showed some good speed in running down plays outside of the hashes.     Jayden showed some excellent coverage in the game, with a nice interception in man coverage on a deep pass attempt in the first quarter. After that interception, Mooresville really didn't try to go at him very much, or throw a deep pass for the rest of the game. Jayden has very good speed and despite only being listed at 5'10, he played outside corner like a bigger player. I think he has a place playing college football somewhere at the next level.     The 2027 prospect was definitely active all game long for the Panthers. Holding an offer from Charlotte, Liam did a good job of setting the edge to his side in the running game. Most of the success Mooresville did have in the running game was away from his side. Liam also got involved on a couple of quarterback pressures in the passing game. Given his overall size and athleticism, it will only be a matter of time before Liam begins to pick up more attention from a recruiting perspective.
