The top LB prospect continues to shine on both sides of the ball, and [player_tooltip player_id='1238514' first='Kasen' last='Thomas'] boasted another spectacular performance on the ground Friday night. Against Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Thomas ran for 276 yards on just 19 carries and 2 touchdowns. With the combination of size, speed, and sheer power when he lowers the shoulder, it is harrowing tackling Thomas coming out of the backfield just as much as it is to be tackled by him, and he showed that as he broke several big runs en route to a blowout win. Thomas has over 1200 rushing yards and leads all Class 3A players in rushing touchdowns (20). Thomas continues to shine as the premium athlete leading Bishop Heelan's football team right now.

Creston has emerged back into prevalence this year, having won their last 3 games in a row after losing their first 4 games of the season, and Weston Trapp has fit the offense extremely well as he has helped Creston push their way back into contention this season. Trapp had his best night against Knoxville in week 7, rushing for 217 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 13 carries, while adding 3 catches for 48 yards. Trapp was elusive, as his lateral movement was very clean and was shedding off hits and people trying to grab at his legs en route to several big runs that resulted in half of Creston's points that they scored on Knoxville. Trapp leads all Class 3A players in rushing yards (1409) with 16 touchdowns, having surged over the last few weeks into becoming a top-3 RB overall among the group.

Webster City ran for a whopping 468 yards and 6 touchdowns against Charles City in week 7, and over half of those rushing yards came from senior [player_tooltip player_id='1361121' first='Cael' last='Nixon']. Nixon finished with a season-high 275 yards on 34 carries and 4 touchdowns in the win. Entering the game, Nixon was the team's second-leading rusher, but he got the bulk of carries in week 7 and he was running all over Charles City's defense, taking carries to the outside and shedding off defenders to break into the open, which he did a lot on Friday night. Nixon should continue to see plenty of carries playing in a deep and efficient backfield that the Lynx have.

Assumption won their second game this season at home in a stunning upset, blowing out a 5-1 Washington team 34-6, and Ben Yeggy led the way as the Demons' defense could not stop him. Yeggy ran for 181 yards on 30 carries and 3 touchdowns. Yeggy was a difficult player for Washington to tackle, breaking big runs off of small lanes, and showing a great burst of speed on the outside-zones. Yeggy also proved to be a perfect decoy in the Play-Action game, which opened up the passing offense very well for Assumption on Friday night. Yeggy has been one of the more underrated RBs from Class 3A this season and certainly warrants mentioning toward prospecting college teams.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton cruised their way to a 7-0 start with a shutout win at home over Carroll, and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1529036' first='Ryan' last='Husen'] added on to his growing resume on why he's becoming one of the most dangerous RB prospects for the class of 2027. On just 10 carries, Husen finished with 199 yards and a touchdown. Husen has blistering speed and is especially dangerous running to the outside zones, and playing in a split backfield, Husen truly gave the best outcome on his carries for his team, proving to be the difference-maker in the team's win. Husen has averaged 10.3 yards per carry on 54 carries this season, and it will be interesting to see if he will get more carries moving forward with how well he's been doing on his reps.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1844927' first='Ethan' last='McNeal'] saw much more reps this week carrying the ball this week, and he showcased great potential as a threat in the backfield moving forward. Against Perry, McNeal ran for 166 yards on just 15 carries and a touchdown. McNeal proved most effective taking pitches to the outside, allowing him to use his quick vision to find the open space and burst through the lanes. McNeal is a fast RB that can be a dangerous open-field runner, and while he plays in a deep backfield, he should certainly be due for an uptick in carries very soon.

Mount Pleasant overcame a 27-21 deficit at halftime, rallying with 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pull off a win over Keokuk, and a big reason for that was thanks to towering senior Zachary Newton. Newton, who handled QB duties as well for Panthers finished with 139 rushing yards on 13 carries and 2 touchdowns, while going 4 of 7 passing for 81 yards. Mount Pleasant ran the ball 54 times, primarily with a split backfield with Newton handing the ball to one of the two RBs that were on each side of him, but Newton proved to be the most dangerous with the ball in his hands, with his size and impressive acceleration making it difficult to tackle him, and he propelled the Panthers to a 4th quarter comeback win. Newton will look to maintain that positive momentum moving forward heading into the postseason.
