The Kansas High School Football Season is halfway through the regular season.

Teams are already fighting for playoff seeding and there are quite a few interesting games on the schedule for October 4, and week five.

Here are five games I have decided to preview.

Council Grove (4-0) @ Osage City (4-0) – One of the top week five match-ups is in District 3 in Class 2A. Both the Braves and Indians are undefeated and play in a state district where each team has a winning record. The Class 2A district also features Riley County (3-1), Silver Lake (3-1), and St. Marys (3-1).

[player_tooltip player_id='285495' first='Ace' last='Monihen'], QB, 6'0”, 180, Council Grove, 25

Monihen is ranked No. 265 overall by Prep Redzone. Through four games he has rushed for 452 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has also been contributing on defense with a stat line that included seven total tackles, five tackles for lost yardage, two quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Lansing (3-1) @ Seaman (3-1) – One of the best games in the United Kansas League in week five will occur in Northern Topeka. Class 5A Seaman and Class 4A Lansing will be looking for a statement league win. Both teams are chasing the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats in the league standings but playoff seeding is the main issue on the line in this game. Both squads are currently sitting in a top eight-seed position but will need every win possible to remain there.

[player_tooltip player_id='442342' first='Max' last='Huston'], QB, 6'0”, 170, Seaman, ‘25

Huston is one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in Kansas and playing like it. Through four games he has thrown for 806 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is a legitimate pocket passer being recruited by multiple programs at multiple levels. This game could come down to which offense has more chunk plays and best takes care of the ball.

Norton (4-0) @ Beloit (3-1) – This is a game I wish I could be at, but I will be staying close to home this week. I was supposed to see Beloit play Southeast Saline but the game got rained out and moved a day. The Trojans face another undefeated team in Norton. Barring a big upset, the winner of this contest should go on to win Class 2A's District 7.

[player_tooltip player_id='716132' first='Eli' last='Jones'], QB 6'1”, 185, Norton, ‘25

Jones is currently ranked No. 243 overall in the class of 2025 Prep Redzone Kansas rankings. The thing I like most about his game is his efficiency in guiding the offense. He owns an eye-popping 61 percent completion percentage through four games. He has completed 40 passes for 583 yards and seven touchdowns. On the ground, he has rushed for 360 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Santa Fe Trail (2-2) @ Wellsville (4-0) – The Chargers and Eagles meet in a Class 3A District 3 tilt. If Wellsville wins they take a stranglehold on the district, but a Santa Fe Trail win would open the door for them to win the District. The Eagles are outscoring opponents 181-27 in four games, and the Wellsville Defense has pitched two shutouts this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115098' first='Matt' last='Newhouse'], ATH, 5'6” 140, Wellsville, ‘25

Newhouse is currently ranked No. 374 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas. He has been contributing on both sides of the ball for the Eagles. He is among the state leaders in Class 3A in receiving yards with 204 yards on 16 receptions. He has 16 total tackles and one interception from his defensive backfield position.

Clay Center (2-2) @ Rock Creek (3-1) – The Tigers and Cowboys face off in a key Class 3A District 5 contest. Marysville is undefeated at 4-0 and is 1-0 in district play. Clay Center has one district win over Chapman, while the Mustangs are playing their first district game. The winner becomes a front-runner with the Bulldogs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1515796' first='Eisaac' last='Girton'], RB/LB, 6'0”, 195, Clay Center, ‘26

Girton had rushed for 257 yards and two touchdowns. He has had a huge impact on defense with 42 total tackles in three games. He is currenlty unranked by Prep Redzone, but look for him to be added during an October update.
