Class 1A Top WR/TE Performances of Week 8

In our final weekly report of standouts from Class 1A Iowa this season, we wrap up the regular season for the conference with the top pass-catching performances from the group that has played extremely well through the 2024 season, with 18 different receivers in the group posted with 500+ receiving yards throughout the season. Today, we take a look at the 4 best WRs and the 3 best TEs that finished the regular season for Class 1A with a bang!    [player_tooltip player_id='1601503' first='Tyler' last='Lass'] was one of the most impressive freshmen standouts from Class 1A this season, and he propelled Ogden with a positive showing to end the regular season, blowing out Nodaway Valley on the road. Lass finished with a season high 191 receiving yards on 9 catches and a touchdown in the win. His touchdown came on a 91 yard bomb as Ogden was airing it out on Friday night. Lass showed that he is fully capable of stretching the field with his route running and solid movement after the catch. Averaging 18.6 yards per catch this season, Lass has established himself as a reliable vertical threat who will be an impact player for this offense over the next few years.     The other freshman star receiver on Ogden's offense this season has been [player_tooltip player_id='1601589' first='Weston' last='Sundell'], who also was unbeatable out wide on Friday night against Nodaway Valley. Sundell finished with 174 yards on 8 catches and 2 touchdowns in the win. Sundell did an excellent job at finding the ball and adjusting the ball to match the depth and velocity of the throw. That route-running style proved critical in getting to the ball in stride to capitalize for two scores. Sundell will have time to grow in size, but with him in the lineup, Ogden's future looks bright with an amazing receiving tandem leading the way moving forward.     One of my favorite players having watched through the 2025 season has been [player_tooltip player_id='1466973' first='Ethan' last='Reiter'], who in a losing effort against Dike-New Hartford capped off a productive senior campaign delivering another brilliant performance. Reiter finished with 4 receptions for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss. Reiter proved to be extremely difficult for the secondary to contain, finding the open seams and winning 1-on-1 matchups with CBs. As a dangerous vertical threat with great strides in his runs, Reiter should start to generate several offers very soon as he remains unsigned for now.     Kyle Sub hasn't seen much targets through his sophomore season, but he had a big role on Friday night as Underwood shut down Red Oak at home. Sub finished with 4 catches for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. With much of the focus for the defense on his teammate Easton Robertson during the night, Sub was the beneficiary of a good chunk of targets in the passing game. Sub played well with an increased workload, showing solid route-running and ball-tracking that resulted in him reeling in a pair of touchdowns. Heading into his junior season, Sub could see himself propelled as a No. 1 WR with several of the current starters slated to graduate.     One of the most impressive athletes from Class 1A this season has been [player_tooltip player_id='252315' first='Tiernan' last='Vokes'], who's size and frame suits him well as a TE, but has made him a complete mismatch lined out wide against CBs. Vokes used this matchup to his advantage once again against Hudson in week 8, finishing with 4 catches for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. Vokes' remained as sharp as ever, proving difficult to tackle and boasts impressive speed to break into the open field, but we got to see more of Vokes in his natural TE role on Friday night, and he proved to play well as a blocker at the end of the line. As Vokes continues to shine for the Spartans, the attention now turns to finishing his senior campaign with a 3rd-straight state championship title to add to his already impressive resume.     Brayden Kennedy emerged as the top target in the passing game this season for Pleasantville. During the blowout win over Cardinal this week, Kennedy had just 2 receptions, but finished with 53 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kennedy's first touchdown came on an out-route in which he showed impressive speed to get to the pylon, and his second was a 34-yarder in which Kennedy got open in the middle seam, in which he made a perfect inside release to make a defender miss to get to the end zone once again. Kennedy will continue to be the go-to guy in the redzone as Pleasantville enters the postseason with their best record since 2017.     As South Hardin routed Columbus Catholic on the road to end the regular season, TE Traven Wheeler finished the night with just 2 receptions, but finished with 77 receiving yards and a touchdown. Wheelers' size and lengthy wingspan suits him well for the position, and his athleticism is impressive overall, and that showed on Friday night as he recorded receptions of 39 and 38 yards, proving to be a great pass-catcher playing on the line that is difficult to tackle and can rack up yards after the catch. Wheeler's athleticism has made him an impressive athlete playing both on the football and basketball team, and he could very much have a bright future with either sport moving forward.
