Which 2025 LBs & DBs Are on the Cusp of Making Our Rankings?

The list includes some of the nation's most highly touted prospects, but it also features a ton of unsung hidden gems.   Today, I'm looking at which linebackers and defensive backs just missed our rankings update, but are on pace for our next one. These are all very talented prospects that could have easily been justified in making this most recent update. I will keep an eye on them throughout their senior season as we prepare for our next update.   As always, If you have someone you think I need to see, please DM them to me on Twitter at @hsfbscout!   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>   Linebackers   Sean DaVault, 6'1" 235, Nederland   Super productive, totaling 116 tackles, 28 TFLs, and 7 sacks last fall. DeVault is a throwback blue-collar linebacker with experience playing both inside and outside linebacker. He's got exceptional burst, is a violent blocker shedder, and is a forceful tackler on impact.   Vashon Brunswick, 6'1" 220, Sachse   Vashon has great instincts in zone coverage, he's got the lateral quickness to shed second-level blocks and will make ball carriers pay on contact. He times up blitzes well often coming scot-free, he can come to balance and tackle in space & he can step up in the box and plug holes between the a & b gaps.   Mason Wuenschel, 6'3" 210, Port Neches-Groves   An outside linebacker prospect who fights to keep his outside arm free on the perimeter, he bullies backs in pass protection and is fluid dropping to his curl/flat responsibility. He's got above-average ball skills, takes quality angles to the tackle not overpursuing, and plays with a high motor.   Jack Morse, 6'1" 210, Highland Park   Another productive inside linebacker that plays a calculated brand of football, he can generate turnovers in a multitude of ways and can stun a back in his tracks. He's tough as nails, has a high football IQ, and to me is a true throwback Mike linebacker.   Sam Oakland, 6'2" 225, Randolph   This young man is always around the football, he's got great closing speed and is extremely aggressive at the point of attack. He plays with reckless abandon, speeds his feet on contact, and is constantly hustling to the football through the echo of the whistle.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots"/>   Defensive Backs   [player_tooltip player_id='1014306' first='Jonathan' last='Blake'] 5'10" 175, Crowley   Blake has quality ball skills finishing 2023 with 4 interceptions, he's a vicious tackler coming down from his stem and is a true sideline-to-sideline runner. This kid is willing to put his body on the line at any moment to make a play.   [player_tooltip player_id='908810' first='Brandon' last='Jones'] 5'10" 175, Summer Creek   Jones has great route anticipation and awareness, he's got plenty of range and can add value as a punt returner as well. Jones can come to balance & make 1 on 1 tackles in the open, he stays over the top of targets in zone coverage and has outstanding leaping ability.   [player_tooltip player_id='1149373' first='Darien' last='Fantroy'] 6'1" 180, North Side   Darien is a lengthy corner prospect equipped with long arms, exceptional ball skills, and the ability to bait quarterbacks into poor throws. He can widen a receiver's release in press, he's got patient, yet explosive feet, and is extremely competitive on the 1 on 1 ball.   Yusuf Thomas, 6'1" 175, Cedar Hill   Thomas is smooth working out of a pedal and will work his read steps through quick game, he's sticky in man coverage and is comfortable coming up in run support. He plays through the target's hands in man, he's got good recovery speed, and has quality mirror skills in press.   Caleb Holt, 6'2" 190, North Forney   A long safety with great anticipation and can cover a ton of ground while the football is in the air. He's got tight footwork, and explodes out of his breaks, he's a consistent tackler coming down from the third level and has the football acumen to overlap and give help where it's needed.   Trevor Brooks, 5'10" 185, Chapel Hill   This young man is a playmaker wherever you throw him: offense, defense, or special teams. He's extremely physical for a guy his size, he's fearless taking on much bigger blockers and has an inordinate amount of play strength. He plays right now as an outside linebacker, but based on his size, I expect him to move to strong safety at the next level.   [player_tooltip player_id='581100' first='Scott' last='Fishpaw'] 6" 185, Coppell   A rangy, ball-hawking safety who can easily midpoint two targets while in his backpedal and stay over the top. He's got great closing burst, he can climb the ladder & attack the football at its highest point, and is a steady tackler in space.
