RED BANK | In a special addition of Wednesday night football, White Knoll put together a workmanlike effort to finish off non-region play with a 38-0 victory over Fort Dorchester.

The stars on both sides of the ball did what they needed. [player_tooltip player_id='346199' first='Landon' last='Sharpe'] was efficient, going 16-of-24 for 203 yards with one touchdown. The senior completed his final seven passes and if not for a few drops sprinkled in, his numbers would have been a lot better.

[player_tooltip player_id='1025815' first='Caleb' last='Geronomi'] still is the Timberwolves do everything two-way player. He hauled in nine passes for 153 yards and a nifty 40-yard catch-and-run that put an exclamation point on the scoring.

Defensively, the front of Cornelle Rice, [player_tooltip player_id='1172366' first='Tyrone' last='Jennings'], and Caleb Caughman along with linebackers [player_tooltip player_id='1734647' first='Keaton' last='Bennett'], Bradley Benjamin and [player_tooltip player_id='1083060' first='Connor' last='Burgess'] created havoc that limited the Patriots to 177 yards of total offense, just 41 rushing yards. Fort Dorchester didn't run a play in White Knoll territory until the first play of the fourth quarter.

But the unsung heroes of the night could have come from the White Knoll offensive line. Often overlooked, the five up front bullied their way to a convincing win before they face a five-week gauntlet in Region IV-AAAAA to end the season.

“I think we still need to get better at what we're doing and listen to our coach and everything he has to say. I think we're ready to go into the region and kick some butt,” senior center Hayden Hohlwein said. “I expect really hard, tough football teams but we're working hard, in the weight room every day working hard just like them so it's going to be a dogfight.”

Hohlwein was joined on the left side by Jeaden Johnson and John Quesada and on the right by Donovan Sims and Jaylen Gates to complete a formidable offensive line. Leading rusher [player_tooltip player_id='1036740' first='Tiyon' last='Fanning'] missed the game with injury but they paved the way for Sh'Quez Montgomery, Jordan Keith and Sharpe to run enough to never be in danger.

Montgomery, who had 106 yards on 14 carries, started the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run. Two series later, Sharpe scampered in from 11 yards out. The daggers came 38 seconds apart late in the second quarter. Montgomery scored from 19 yards before the Patriots fumbled the ensuing kickoff inside their 5-yard line. Two players later, Keith scored from two yards to make it 28-0.

Jordy Aguilera added a field goal at the halftime buzzer for a 31-0 lead.

Now White Knoll turns its attention to the region slate that includes Chapin, Dutch Fork, Irmo, Lexington and River Bluff. The six teams in the region have combined to go 26-3 in the non-region portion of the schedule.

“They're tough teams that play physical football. Every team plays a different brand but they're all physical,” White Knoll coach Nick Pelham said. “I'm really excited to see where we stack up, but it might be a race to see who can stay healthy. I think that will be an important part of it.”

FORT DORCHESTER NOTABLES

The Patriots played without running back [player_tooltip player_id='473024' first='Ryan' last='Campbell'] and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='454066' first='Malquan' last='Pimentel']. They rotated in quarterbacks [player_tooltip player_id='640683' first='Kevin' last='Johnson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1639886' first='Banks' last='Wickersham'] and neither had much success playing with six or seven sophomore starters on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1198530' first='Jaxon' last='King'] had a nice game from his middle linebacker spot plus he caught a couple of passes that moved the chains early. [player_tooltip player_id='1271486' first='Savon' last='Garrett'] was another linebacker that played well. One name to watch is Antuan Prioleau, a freshman defensive back. He had two pass breakups and played man coverage for a good bit of the night.
