Milton has been on a tear this early season as he currently leads the state in rushing and that's due to his monster performance in last week's win. The War Eagles senior back has been on a man on a mission thus far to prove he is worthy for Mr. Football contendership by season's end as well as someone that should be looked at harder by collegiate coaches. Milton has put forth several big games throughout his career with maybe last being his best one yet and it was needed as the War Eagles defeated Perry Co. by only seven points. All five of his touchdown's were difference makers and I expect Milton to continue putting up big numbers the remainder of the season while at the top of the list for 1A Mr. Football.

New to the Phoenix program for his senior year, Whittaker is certainly making an impact, especially in his team's shutout victory last Friday over Innovation Academy. Standing almost 6 '2 and 200 plus pounds, Whittaker looks the part of a college guy and if he continues to string together performances like last week, his chances of playing on the next level grow higher. This is an athletic guy (seen by his stats) that brings a nice skill set to the quarterback position but it may be his big arm that attracts coaches. It will be fun to see how Whittaker continues to progress throughout the season and potentially leads his Phoenix squad on a deep playoff run.

Carter was a major in pushing his Raiders team to 3-1 on the season after a 21-0 shutout victory over Siegel last Friday. This senior linebacker did just about everything on field from rushing the passer, stopping the run and playing in coverage. His film from last week is excellent, which showcases all those skills and then some. Carter has been an active tackler over his career at Coffee Co., so last week's performance is no surprise but if he can put more work in like this the rest of the way, he may force college coaches to start looking at him much harder.

O-line of the Week

Haywood Tomcats

- Running the ball is the Tomcats specialty and they performed extremely well in this area last week with their 52-15 win over Fayette-Ware. The Haywood offensive line paved the way for two 150 plus yard runners in [player_tooltip player_id='1102345' first='Kemonte' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='466233' first='Camarion' last='Miller'] to carve up the Wildcats defense on the way to victory. Those two ball carriers produced a total of six rushing scores on the night and did so because of a good Tomcats O-line that is trained to block for the run. Don't be surprised if you see this group earn this honor again this season because the Tomcats will continue to run the ball, especially when you have two of the best West TN ball carriers in Miller and Williams.

Team of the Week

Riverdale Warriors

- The biggest win of the week comes from these Warriors, who took down 6A power Germantown, 24-7 in what was an impressive victory for a ball club looking to contend for a region and state title. This win over the Red Devils shows that Riverdale belongs or can at least compete with the top half of their classification. The most impressive thing about last week's performance was the Warriors defense, which shut down a potentially explosive Germantown offense. Key seniors like [player_tooltip player_id='1151465' first='J.C.' last='Haynes'], [player_tooltip player_id='490634' first='Jomauri' last='Smith'] and a talented secondary played big roles in this victory and will need to continue playing at a high level the remainder of the season to stay at the top of the 6A ranks.

QB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='301391' first='Weston' last='Edmondson'] - GCA

- This is the 2nd time this year Edmondson has earned this honor. The Rams senior signal caller is having his best season yet where his accuracy and efficiency has developed nicely and he's led his team to an undefeated start thus far to their season.

RB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1080185' first='Noah' last='Spencer'] - USJ

- It's hard not to put this guy here as Spencer continues to dominate week in and week out. His performance in the Eagles 28-13 win over Jackson Chrst. last Friday was huge where he ran all over their defense on the way to a 300 plus yard game and four scores.

WR POTW: Garrett Sellars - Unicoi Co.

- You talk about being efficient and productive, Sellars scored a touchdown every time he was thrown the ball while nearly putting up 200 yards in receiving. Besides the team's top wideout, Sellars decided to make plays on defense as well by producing four tackles and one pick from the Blue Devils secondary.

ATH POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1467544' first='Jody' last='Scruggs'] - Carter ‘26

- Scruggs was everything on the offensive side of the ball for the Hornets in last week's 52-20 win over South Doyle. He not only handled business in the backfield, rushing for over 230 yards but also hauled in several passes while producing three total touchdowns on the night.

DL POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1102507' first='KD' last='Cunningham'] - McKenzie

- The Rebels remained undefeated after their 49-7 win over McEwen last week where Cunningham was near unblockable. This West TN senior disruptor played in the Warriors backfield all night long, producing for himself while also causing havoc and helping others. Cunningham also played a big role in opening holes on the offensive line too, blocking for his talented backfield.

LB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1657165' first='Dom' last='Culp'] - Knox. Halls

- Culp played a big role on defense, producing in a big way for his Red Devils team in their commanding win over Hardin Valley. This junior linebacker has been very active this early season for Knox. Halls as he currently sits within the top three in the state for overall tackles.

DB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1118589' first='Dason' last='Springer'] - WH-Heritage

- Springer earns yet another POTW honor after a stellar game last Friday where he lockdown things on the back end by picking off two passes and taking one back to the house. He was also strong against the run in his team's victory over Cheatham County.
