Chris Smith | Prep Redzone Scout
Choosing our Class 3A defensive player of the year was tough but looking at the production from Springer and his impact within his Patriots team last season, it was hard not to give it to this athletic secondary playmaker. Springer had such a big senior year that he could have been in consideration for receiver of the year as well. His defensive work was impressive where the Patriots safety produced 137 total tackles along with four for loss, two sacks, five passes defended and six interceptions. Springer’s game play and energy throughout the season was highly impactful on the Patriots overall success. It was also a strong year that pushed his recruiting stock higher where some FCS schools have taken notice.

Springer might have been the best overall playmaker coming out of the 3A ranks last season as the Patriots senior two-way product nearly dominated the field from both sides of the ball. Over on offense, Springer had a big year at receiver where he caught 59 passes for 976 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 16.5 yards per catch. The Pats senior athlete also had a monster year on defense as Springer produced 137 total tackles along with 4 for loss, two sacks and six interceptions on the year. It was truly a breakout year for this Mid-TN talent, showing potential to excel at either position on the collegiate level.
