This article was originally published on Prep Hoops, but since there are 11 football players highlighted, we wanted to get more eyes on the athletes by publishing on Prep Redzone as well.

To make this article, the players had to first be a stud/standout basketball player. Secondly, the ballers need to excel at an additional sport and in this case, it is football!

A multi-sport athlete is someone who participates and competes in more than one sport, often excelling in multiple disciplines. These athletes engage in different sports during various seasons. Multi-sport athletes are typically known for their versatility, physical endurance, adaptability, and they often benefit from cross-training, which can enhance their overall athletic performance in each sport. Being a multi-sport athlete offers several benefits, both physically and mentally. By playing multiple sports, athletes improve their overall athleticism, reduce their risk of injury because of balanced development, avoid burnout, increase versatility & skills, enhance their mental toughness, improve problem-solving, grow socially, and increase opportunities in various ways.

Multi-Sport Athletes

[player_tooltip player_id='1152914' first='Aiden' last='Fisher'] (2025) |5'10 G| Aberdeen Roncalli

Aiden is the Cavaliers starting QB, Free Safety, Kicker, and Punter for the Roncalli football team. In his two starts at QB thus far, he has thrown for one TD and ran for five. He has gone 9 for 9 on extra points thus far! Fischer is an extremely talented, intelligent, and versatile player. He started the season playing wide receiver/slot, but after the first game, transitioned to QB and has helped the offense run extremely well. He is a captain for the team and leads the offensive huddle while controlling the secondary on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='848974' first='Brenner' last='Konrad'] (2025) |6'5 F| Tea Area

Konrad is the starting quarterback and one of the leaders on defense for the Titans. Brenner is the main guy for the football team & he does a little bit of everything (passing, running, tackling), etc. Konrad is getting a large amount of interest from college coaches about playing football and that will only increase as time goes on. He will also be a stud thing winter in basketball.

Brody Weinmeister (2024) |6'1 G| Aberdeen Roncalli

Brody missed the first two games of the football season due to a shoulder injury, but in his first game back (in limited action) he recovered a fumble for a TD and had an interception! Brody is just beginning to find his groove as he returns to his running back and linebacker positions, but the Cavaliers are expecting big things from him this fall!

[player_tooltip player_id='1003973' first='Carson' last='Ness'] (2025) |6'1 G| Yankton

A stud in everything that he does! All-State caliber player in football, 2-years starting as a wide receiver and defensive back. All-Conference type point guard, 2-year starter. PHD is high on Ness, I think he will have an excellent hoops season. In Track & Field, Ness just missed out on Finals in the Open 400, ran 400 leg on State Champion Medley Relay as a junior, went to National Nike Meet, and got 2nd place in Medley. Carson will place in multiple events at State Track this spring. Multiple sport athletes are a HUGE priority in Yankton. Their athletes take pride in representing their high school and community in multiple sports.

Cole Kieffer (2028) |6'3 F| Lyman

This youngster starts at offensive end and the defensive end for the Raiders varsity football team. Kieffer played and started last year at times for both the basketball and football teams. Cole is one of the leading tacklers for Lyman. He is also a track runner in the spring and plays baseball in the summer.

Dawsen Volmer (2027) |6'3 G| Lyman

He is a two-way starter on the football team. Volmer plays the end positions on both sides of the ball. Dawsen started all 21 games for the Raiders in basketball last year on the varsity. I have watched him a few times in hoops, I like Mr. Volmer's game. In the spring, Dawsen runs on the track team and in the summer he plays baseball.

[player_tooltip player_id='210622' first='Easton' last='Nelson'] (2025) |6'0 G| Yankton

He has athletic bloodlines and is a well-rounded multi-sport athlete. This fall, Nelson is the starting QB for the 2-1 Bucks. Easton is 2-year starter in basketball and a 2-year starter in high school & legion baseball. Multiple sport athletes are a HUGE priority in Yankton. Their athletes take pride in representing their high school and community in multiple sports.

Ganon Henrich (2024) |6-1 G| De Smet

He is a talented and versatile 3-sport athlete. At 175 lbs. Ganon is playing WR, RB, and QB for the Bulldog football team this fall. In the summer, Henrich had a good summer of basketball, the Bulldogs are excited to see what he can do this winter. Ganon holds the 100-Meter Record at De Smet in Track. Last spring, Ganon had a successful track season and medaled at the State Meet.

[player_tooltip player_id='849018' first='Grant' last='Wilkinson'] (2026) |6'8 C| De Smet

He is looking like a serious football recruit who is getting a large amount of interest from coaches/programs. Wilkinson is playing well this fall and his future looks extremely bright on the gridiron. Wilkinson impressed me this spring/summer in basketball, I think he is going to have a monster year of hoops. Grant was also on the podium for the shot put last spring at the State Meet.

[player_tooltip player_id='1003935' first='John' last='Lent'] (2024) |6'4 PF| O'Gorman

In football, Lent anchors the line for the Knights as their only returning starter on both sides of the line. John has worked hard to put himself into a situation where he should have an outstanding senior season in three sports for O'Gorman. Lent will be a big part of O'Gorman's basketball team and is also an outstanding baseball pitcher.

MJ Diehm (2027) |5'10 G| Lyman

MJ is a defensive starter on the 2-1 Raider football team. Diehm leads the team in interceptions and pass breakups! He started all 21 Varsity basketball games as a freshman. He also runs track and plays baseball. Diehm has exciting potential as a 3-sport athlete.
