I opened the season by scouting a city rival game between Salina Central and Salina South.

The Salina South Cougars scored first and had two leads before a veteran Mustang defense shut them down in the second half in a 55-13 Cougar loss.

The Cougars played a gritty game under new head coach Christien Ozores and have several talented young athletes.

Here is a look at four prospects who caught my eye during the contest.

[player_tooltip player_id='1402759' first='Jayven' last='Correa Brown'], DL, 6'2”, 270, Salina South, ‘26

I was most impressed with Correa-Brown. He is a fast and powerful defensive tackle with a high ceiling. Correa-Brown is currently ranked No. 285 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas. He was playing in a four-man front, but he could play nose guard in a 3-4 scheme. He made multiple tackles in the game and can eat up space. He was used as a fullback in goal-line situations. He has the speed to roll over defenders as a blocker and a difficult ball-carrier to tackle if handed the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1125656' first='Kobie' last='Henley'], RB/LB 6'2”, 180, Salina South, ‘27

Henley is just a sophomore with a ton of football ahead of him. I noticed him on the defensive side of the ball making tackles. It sounded like his future as an upperclassman could be on the offensive side. He has a long frame and moves quickly. He will thump a runner and lay his body out to make plays. He is currently ranked No. 27 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027 rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='1425331' first='Aidan' last='Anderes'], LB/RB, 6'0”, 215, Salina South, ‘25

The grittiest Cougar of all was Anderes. The senior prospect took snaps on both sides of the ball. He scored a rushing touchdown in which he trucked his way into the end zone. He is quick and can make an impact in the backfield as a linebacker. He doesn't have a huge frame, but I can tell he is a hard worker in the gym. He currently is unranked and does not have any college offers yet.

[player_tooltip player_id='1425448' first='Jaxon' last='Myers'], WR, 5'11”, 160, Salina South, ‘26

Myers is a burner. He torched the Mustang secondary a couple of times including once for a deep touchdown. He has nice hands and runs tight routes. He is a versatile athlete who can line up out wide, in the slot, can run jet sweeps, or be utilized as a pass catcher out of the backfield.
