South Hardin was picture-perfect in the passing game against South Hamilton, and after a solid breakout season last year, Sam Benson quickly picked up where he left off by rekindling his surging rapport with QB Peyton Welch. Benson finished the game with 7 catches for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns. Benson excelled in 1-on-1 coverage, and did a great job gaining leverage to make contested catches. Benson could improve on his footwork to make him a more polished route-runner, but Benson is very much on pace for an explosive junior season that could help earn him a nice spot on the Iowa rankings by next year.

Caden Sykes made his debut on Friday for Colfax-Mingo after having moved from Bondurant-Farrar. While the offense struggled to get going, Sykes quickly established himself as the Tigerhawks' premium target, finishing with 7 catches for 127 yards. Sykes was put in a variety of spots on the offense, but played the most snaps as an slot receiver in a doubles-set. Sykes showed great route-running through the night, showing great timing in his deep releases and faking out defenders on the direction of his route to get open. Sykes should fit right in the Tigerhawks' offense and should enjoy a strong senior season.

Easton Robertson will have significantly more playing time in 2024 after sitting behind a loaded WR group for the Eagles last season. While the passing game struggled to get going in week 1, Robertson quickly fit in as a solid possession receiver, with 10 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. Robertson was able to get open with sharp route-running, utilizing quick cuts and solid body-control to adjust for passes. His touchdown catch was the lone score for the Eagles on the day, and it came off a nice adjustment by Robertson on a slant route to get back to the pass thrown slightly behind him. Robertson should have big numbers his senior year playing with one of the most productive passers in Iowa last season in [player_tooltip player_id='1221934' first='Garrett' last='Luett'].

The OABCIG Falcons wasted no time establishing a strong passing game in week 1, and Blake Corbin saw much more playing time at WR to start the season. Corbin finished the game with 7 catches for 75 yards on the air. Corbin will be a valuable contributor for the Falcons' proficient offense as they look to build off their strong start and prime themselves as contenders this season.

Columbus Catholic has tools on the offense that can help revitalize the unit following the departure of several key starters from last year, and sophomore Owen Hosch proved that he is a great young prospect on the rise, finishing with 6 catches for 79 yards on Friday. Hosch is a speedy receiver with a great frame and solid length already for his age. His biggest highlight in the opener was making a spectacular catch through tight coverage on a deep bomb against Beckman Catholic. As the offense continues to redevelop this season, we'll keep watch of Hosch as a growing pass-catcher.

Coy Moline made his varsity debut on Friday for the Cougars, and while he finished with just 3 catches in the game, they were 3 spectacular catches despite being surrounded by defenders that he churned for 81 total yards and a touchdown. Moline did a solid job on route-running through the night, but it was his ability to react instinctively, coming back for the ball and coming down with contested passes proved a difference maker as the Cougars edged out Southeast Valley 28-26. Moline should be a name to watch out for this season as a potentially exciting playmaker.
