Ashbrook at Crest - Offensive Standouts

<p>The Crest Chargers used a dominant second half to take control and defeat the Ashbrook.Green Wave 29-12 in a matchup of undefeated football teams. Players from both sides stood out offensively, we will take a look at them in this article. </p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Aiden had a good game with a touchdown run and a 2 point conversion run. A potential second touchdown run was negated by a holding penalty. However, Aiden was fast and strong with the football in his hands. He was able to run through tackles in multiple occasions and once he got into the open field, he was not getting caught from behind. Aiden was credited with over 100 yards rushing for the Chargers. i had a chance to speak with Aiden after the game. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/pepman704/status/1837343247007437030?t=xRb2Ps_JUUZrb3nqrTLA3g&s=19 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">The senior prospect is in his first season at Crest, and I thought he did a good job distributing the football. Turner threw 3 touchdown passes in the game: his first one was a beautiful deep post route where he hit his receiver in stride. The second one was an incredible Hailmary right before halftime that seemed to flip the momentum of the game. The third TD was a go route where he found his receiver in perfect stride down the sideline. Turner is more of a pocket quarterback who can move in the pocket enough to extend plays and make throws down field, but he is not a big runner. Turner plays smart and protects the football, and is a big reason why the Chargers are undefeated. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Mike had a great game for Crest in this one. He had two touchdown catches, including an incredible Hailmary catch and run for a touchdown on the last play of the first half that I'll share video of here. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/pepman704/status/1837524656665809024?t=grutS2vuN2AZGlE0giTmmg&s=19 </div></figure>   <p>Mike also had a TD catch in the 2nd half on a straight "Go" route where he simply ran right past the corner and caught the pass in stride for the touchdown. It is evident Mike is a big play receiver with good speed and a knack to make big plays in the clutch for his team. Tyjay was the recipient of the first TD pass from QB Turner McSwain which was around a 65 yard catch and run on a deep post route where Tyjay was wide open and simply ran past everyone for an easy touchdown. Tyjay also caught a couple of nice passes over the middle of the field for first downs to keep the chains moving. I liked his speed in the open field and his hands/concentration in close coverage to make big catches in critical situations. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Jonathan played Center for the Green Wave, but he can also play either guard position as well. Ashbrook focused their run game primarily right up the middle against the Chargers, and it was smart game planning because Jonathan consistently was road grading the Crest defensive Linemen in the first half as Ashbrook controlled the ball for the majority of the half in building a 12-7 lead. Jonathan I believe has the talent to be a Division 1 center in his future. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">JJ, true to his ATH designation, played on both sides of the ball for the Green Wave in this one. Offensively, JJ made a beautiful catch on a deep pass when lined up at wide receiver. That play helped setup a touchdown that gave Ashbrook the lead in the 2nd quarter. The Green Wave had a more conservative gameplan, but I think JJ can definitely be a big weapon for Ashbrook that can be a balance to a strong overall running game that can wear down teams over the course of 4 quarters. JJ played some defensive back for the Green Wave as well. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">AJ as a young QB prospect, I think he did a good job in leading the Green Wave in a big matchup. AJ is definitely a dual-threat quarterback, and in passing situations his legs were able to make things happen for the Green Wave offense. He had a huge run in the 1st quarter that got the ball deep into Crest's red zone, and it setup the first Green Wave TD. On 4th and goal in the 2nd quarter, AJ was able to score on a nicely designed QB Draw for a touchdown from about 6 yards out. AJ is still developing as a passer, but a few more opportunities to throw I think would give him more confidence in critical passing situations, and open up the Ashbrook run game even more. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">I liked what I saw overall out of Martino - this was my first ever time seeing him live, and he's a tough and strong downhill runner who excels in the design of Ashbrook's run offense. Martino had the first touchdown of the night for the Green Wave, a 10 yard TD run where he broke two tackles on his way to the end zone. I think Martino is a good back overall with good vision who knows how to read and cut off of his blocks well, especially in the interior run game. He was the primary Ashbrook running back, and I'm excited to see how he continues to progress through the rest of the season. </p>
