Getting ready to play quarterback at the high school level takes a ton of work. It takes a serious attention to detail and with the numerous skill sets that have to be actively worked, it can be a time-consuming process. That is if you want to be an elite QB.

Many kids are good enough athletes that they could probably show up for practice without much off-season training and by virtue of good DNA or the invincibility of youth are able to adequately fill the position. But if you want to be elite, you have to work.

In fact, you have to work your butt off year around if you want to be considered one of the best.

In this report, the third in a series that gives fans a snapshot of the off-season work players have been putting in, I will be covering six QB's. I selected two from each class who are coming off successful seasons and are feeling the pressure to deliver this fall.

So, without further adieu, I bring you the "Sizzling Six":

2025

[player_tooltip player_id='570171' first='Josh' last='Burdick'] , 6'0, 190, QB, Cheney. '25. He is ranked #64 . Coming off an incredible junior season when he led his team to an undefeated state championship, piled up jaw-dropping stats along the way and was non-senior Offensive Player of the Year for the smaller classes. In the off-season he was busy, with a good balance of hitting camps and clinics, working with QB specialists and spending a lot of time working on timing and intangibles with receivers and backs. He went to the Northwest Missouri, Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri camps and worked closely with Coach Cagle with @MPA_Training on fine-tuning his already impressive passing mechanics and footwork. He has also been lifting weights and doing speed work to get ready to handle dual-threat opportunities this fall. This kid is the real deal, get your popcorn ready.

[player_tooltip player_id='1224114' first='Ethan' last='Gomez'] , 5'11, 180, QB, Garden City, '25, is ranked #229. A dangerous playmaker of a quarterback, he chose to stick close to home rather than get out on the camp-clinic circuit and work at his craft locally. As a dual-threat quarterback who can beat you with his legs and his arm, he has been working hard in the weight room and speed work as well. He has also been gathering his receivers and backs every evening at the field to throw routes and work on timing and making sure they are ready to gel this fall. His focus in the off-season was to take his arm strength and footwork to the next level and he has been able to do that while getting in lock step with his skill players. He is peaking at the right time and is getting ready to dominate this fall. Get him on your watchlist. You won't be disappointed.

2026

[player_tooltip player_id='585904' first='Jaylen' last='Mason'] , 6'3, 195, QB, Wichita Northwest. '26, is ranked #6. He is the highest ranked quarterback in the 2026 class and has been training hard in the off-season to deliver an encore season this fall. He has been working closely with Coach Daniels @rashaddaniels12 on all facets of the QB game, from tightening footwork, focusing on passing mechanics, working closely with wide receivers and running backs on timing routes in the short-to-medium game and airing it out to his wideouts to keep improving his already impressive arm strength and velocity. He has also been working through the Northwest off-season weight training program and has bumped up all of his PR's this summer. He has also been speed training and working on his quickness to take his dual-threat abilities to the next level. Get out and see him while you can. This kid is a stud.

[player_tooltip player_id='904445' first='Zane' last='Viegra'] , 6'3, 190, QB, Hays. '26, is ranked #33. I was able to watch him in action recently when he went through his passing training with Coach Cagle and @MPA_Training at Bethel College. He mapped out his summer to focus more on working with his all-state wideout [player_tooltip player_id='283949' first='Jarek' last='Purdy'] and his all-state center, [player_tooltip player_id='944909' first='Gus' last='Corsair'], to make sure the core nucleus is primed and seamless for play this fall . He has been fine-tuning his passing mechanics in the pocket, throwing on the move and working on deep velocity throws and quick-strike timing routes with MPA. He has also been lifting, going through his speed work and getting his mind right for the big season ahead. This kid is a playmaker that just keeps getting better. Get out and see him air it out this fall.

2027

[player_tooltip player_id='856864' first='Pearce' last='George'] , 6'0, 175, QB, Maize. '27, is ranked #19. He is currently the #3 QB in 2027 class and looking to move up. As one of the top young-gun quarterbacks coming out of the class of 2027, he has been very busy in the off-season. Working through a busy 7v7 season with the Wichita Wheat, he was also on the road, traveling to the University of Tulsa camp, the Top Prospect Camp in Salina and was awarded the top 2027 player at the recent Kansas State University camp. He has worked with Coach Cavanaugh with Sharp Performance @sharp_spelite on mechanics and has also been working closely with Coach Cagle @MPA_Training, hitting the most recent session conducted at Southwestern College in Winfield. He has also been lifting hard, and working on speed and quickness. This kid is getting ready to take off like a rocket.

[player_tooltip player_id='637193' first='Brekston' last='Young'] , 6'0, 170, QB, Eisenhower. '27, is ranked #28. He is coming off a good start giving everyone an idea of what he brings to the table. He was able to fit in the Kansas University camp but chose to work with specialists and the team program to stay locked in. In the off-season he has been working with Coach Cagle and Midwest Passing Academy as well and has been making excellent progress on his passing mechanics, footwork setting up and moving around in the pocket and when rolling out or on bootlegs. He has supplemented his work with MPA by training with legendary Coach Tabor with @PIAthletes to make sure he is in the best shape of his life coming up on this fall. He is another young gun that is getting ready to put on a show in the near future.

In conclusion, get these guys on your watchlist and get out and see them if at all possible. You will not be disappointed. And, as always, if you know of anyone "flying under the radar" feel free to reach out to @CoolDaddyO via DM on X.
