INMAN | Fans attending the McDonald's Kickoff Classic at Chapman High Friday were drenched in sunshine to begin the evening. By the end of it, they were just plain drenched. They got their money's worth though.

There was plenty of talent on display in the eight-team jamboree featuring four halves of football and they produced some big plays. Teams combined for 15 plays of 25 yards are more, including six of 50-plus.

While the first two contests were normal halves of football, the last two were played with a running clock until the final two minutes to try to get ahead of the rainy forecast. It began to pour after the second matchup and the rain continued the rest of the night, but there were no lightning delays.

GAME 4: GREER 14, CHAPMAN 10

In the main event, Chapman gave the home fans plenty to cheer about early on as it jumped out to a 10-0 lead. However, the combination of quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='600452' first='Kaden' last='Rowland'] (pictured) and receiver Brock Diggins powered Greer to the comeback victory.

On the final play of the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets faced a third-and-eight deep in their own territory. Rowland was flushed from the pocket and as he ran to his right, he found Diggins at midfield. Diggins made the catch and took off down the right sideline for an 85-yard touchdown.

After a perfect 45-yard coffin corner punt by the Panthers' Hank Tolleson, Greer's next possession began its own four-yard line. On the next play, a 16-yard pass from Rowland to Mike Williams got the Jackets out of the hole. Perhaps the prettiest pass of the jamboree came seven plays later when Rowland threw a perfect deep ball to Diggins. who got in front of a pair of defenders for a 51-yard score as Greer took a 14-10 lead with 3:27 left.

"I'm just proud of my team for coming back and showing perseverance," Rowland said. "Then we kept pounding it to run the clock out. ... It's good to show that we're a threat to run and in the air."

After Greer's defense thwarted Chapman's fourth-down attempt, Jackets' running back Nick Holmes had four runs for 32 yards to kill the clock.

Rowland, who started the half with three incompletions, finished with 159 yards on 4-of-7 passing. Holmes ran nine times for 59 yards.

"We started off sluggish on both sides of the ball. It was a little bit of a different Friday night," Greer coach Will Young said. "I thought midway through the first quarter a little light came on. ... Overall, I'm just pleased with how they finished."

Chapman's Jackson Visoury capped the opening drive of the contest with a 21-yard field goal. After the Panthers forced a three-and-out, their next drive started with a 21-yard run by Jasiah Copeland and ended with a 27-yard touchdown run by [player_tooltip player_id='1732619' first='Justin' last='Dawkins'] to push the lead to 10-0.

Quarterback Bryson Cothran, who split series with Josiah Moore, finished with 69 yards on 4-of-6 passing for Chapman. Dawkins rushed for 31 yards on three carries and had a 51-yard reception to set up the field goal.

GAME 3: WESTSIDE 21, HILLCREST 7

In a matchup of explosive offenses, Westside's defense was the difference as the reigning Class 4A state champions held Hillcrest to 80 yards of total offense. Westside also ended Hillcrest's two possessions in the second quarter with stops on fourth-and-one each time.

After converting a fourth-and-one at midfield on the opening possession, Westside got on the board four plays later when South Carolina commitment [player_tooltip player_id='346189' first='Cutter' last='Woods'] hit [player_tooltip player_id='272705' first='Armoni' last='Weaver'] for a 26-yard touchdown.

Hillcrest answered with a 10-play scoring drive that quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='809746' first='Kalab' last='Sutton'] capped when he twisted his way into the end zone for a six-yard touchdown. That drive was highlighted by a 17-yard run by [player_tooltip player_id='1359171' first='Frank' last='Starks'] and a terrific, leaping catch by [player_tooltip player_id='347516' first='Weston' last='Willis'] for a 28-yard gain.

Westside responded when Woods and Weaver connected again, this time for a 13-yard touchdown. The Rams converted a pair of third downs on the drive as Woods threw to Weaver for 25 yards and passed to [player_tooltip player_id='1157819' first='Sharode' last='Richardson'] for 15.

After stopping Hillcrest for the first time on fourth down, Westside closed out the scoring when [player_tooltip player_id='272708' first='Chamarryus' last='Bomar'] caught a 55-yard bomb from Woods.

Woods finished with 185 yards on 8-of-10 passing with no interceptions. Bomar had 73 yards on two catches, while fellow Byrnes transfer Weaver had 64 yards on three receptions. Richardson rushed for 33 yards on five carries.

GAME 2: WOODRUFF 10, WALHALLA 0

Woodruff's defense pitched a shutout and forced a pair of key fumbles to power the Wolverines to the win.

Walhalla had an 18-yard pass into Woodruff territory on the opening drive. However, the play ended when Mykel Dial stripped the ball away from behind and fellow cornerback Ty Moates recovered the fumble. On the ensuing possession, Woodruff quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1253917' first='TJ' last='Morris'] completed each of his first three passes for 51 yards - including a 29-yard throw to [player_tooltip player_id='1036753' first='Aiden' last='Gibson'] - to help set up a 24-yard field goal by Joshua Ruiz.

Later in the quarter, Walhalla drove from its own 10-yard line to the Woodruff 18 before the Wolverines came up with the another fumble recovery.

Woodruff closed out the contest when Morris found Snoop Green on a seven-yard touchdown.

Morris finished with 113 yards on 11-of-17 passing with no interceptions.

Running back [player_tooltip player_id='1360186' first='Landon' last='Robinson'] led the Razorbacks with 88 yards on 11 carries. Walhalla standout linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='867240' first='Silas' last='Parish'] also appeared to be in midseason form. Parish, who was one of the leading tacklers in the state last season, made the tackle-for-loss on each of Woodruff's only two negative plays.

GAME 1: WREN 20, CHRIST CHURCH 14

Wren raced out to a 20-0 lead and then held off the reigning Class 1A state champions for the victory.

The Hurricanes opened the half with a 10-play scoring drive. After [player_tooltip player_id='1158040' first='Colten' last='Bagwell'] threw a 22-yard pass to Caiden Hill to convert a third-down, [player_tooltip player_id='1253994' first='Reese' last='Price'] scored from five yards out. A low snap on the PAT left Wren with a 6-0 lead.

Christ Church responded with a 15-play drive to the Hurricanes' 10-yard line, but it ended there as Wren forced incompletions on third and fourth down.

The Hurricanes put together a 90-yard scoring drive capped with a seven-yard touchdown run by [player_tooltip player_id='1145268' first='Isaac' last='Wigington']. That score was set up with a 42-yard pass from Bagwell to Brock Cherry.

After Wren forced a three-and-out, it's offense found the end zone again. Bagwell threw to Colby Mann, who broke a pair of tackles on his way to a 42-yard touchdown.

A big play got the Cavaliers on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter as [player_tooltip player_id='1013068' first='Tucker' last='Hendrix'] threw a 67-yard bomb to [player_tooltip player_id='816751' first='Jude' last='Hall'] . On the next play from scrimmage, defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1012695' first='Acie' last='Hatfield'] had a big hit that forced a fumble and Christ Church recovered at the Wren 22-yard line. The Cavaliers couldn't take advantage though as the Hurricanes again forced incompletions on third and fourth down.

The final score came with 1:12 left when [player_tooltip player_id='1012637' first='Jackson' last='Repp'] caught a Hendrix pass and weaved his way for a 55-yard touchdown. Repp's final ascent to the end zone was aided on a nice block by Hall around the 10-yard line.
