Week 2 Players to Watch: Thursday

[player_tooltip player_id='1222236' first='Zeon' last='Ware'], Ath., Corinth Holders

1-0 Corinth Holders hosts 1-0 Broughton on Thursday in an intriguing matchup and I've got my eye on [player_tooltip player_id='1222236' first='Zeon' last='Ware']. Last week against Garner, Ware was everywhere, finishing with 119 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries and adding a sack and pass deflection on defense. Broughton will present a stiff challenge, but Ware's newfound contributions on the offensive side of the ball could be the difference

[player_tooltip player_id='1408761' first='Braylon' last='Knapp'], QB, Perquimans

[player_tooltip player_id='1408761' first='Braylon' last='Knapp'] is a multi-year starter at Perquimans that has all the tools to be a starter at the next level. He's accurate over the middle, stands tall in the pocket and has enough juice in his legs to at least threaten defenses. He threw for 2,700 yards last year and opened the year with a strong, 339-yard, four-touchdown performance that included 45 yards on the ground in a 27-0 win over Manteo. He'll play at Camden County Thursday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1408773' first='Tyler' last='Powell'], Edge/QB, Tarboro

It's hard to cover the entire state, so I'll often peruse MaxPreps to see what I'm missing. When I saw Tarboro had 120 passing yards in a game, I did a double take. In fact, in his debut Powell became the first Tarboro quarterback to throw for 120 yards since Kimani McDaniels threw for 122 in a game in 2018 and he did so on just six attempts. But Powell is also the team's best edge rusher, after racking up seven sacks last year. He had three sacks last week and looks for more two-way dominance at Hertford County.

[player_tooltip player_id='1408782' first='Malachi' last='Bryant'], LB/RB, Rockingham County

It's rare that a freshman leads the team in both rushing and tackling in his first game, but [player_tooltip player_id='1408782' first='Malachi' last='Bryant'] is special. People in that area of the state think he's a future star and after one game, I could definitely see that being the case. Rockingham County has a good challenge against Morehead this week, and he's a guy to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='959863' first='Trevaris' last='Jones'], QB, Northeastern

Jones has been a multi-year varsity starter at quarterback and looked like one last week. He finished with 269 passing yards while completing 16-20 passes. He added 38 yards on the ground and has a great challenge against a strong J.H. Rose defense in Week 2.
