We will be in attendance for one of the oldest and top rivalries in the state of Arkansas, dating back to the 1960s. Last season, Lakeside shocked the state by beating Lake Hamilton 49-42 on their own turf in a back-and-forth game. Second-year HC Garren Rockwell went down as the first coach to beat their rival since the series between the schools resumed in 2018, ushering in a new era for Lakeside football.

Lakeside runs the spread offense, keeping defenses on their toes while running a 3-4 defense. Lake Hamilton is old school, showcasing the Wing T offense with a 4-2-5 defense. The Wolves 4-2-5 should pair well to try and stop the passing attack. As for the Rams, they will need to put pressure and be physical inside the trenches to stop the run heavy approach. In this article, we preview what has the potential to be a season-setting matchup tomorrow night, breaking down players to watch and key prospects.

Arkansas commit [player_tooltip player_id='918048' first='Tucker' last='Young'] has an impressive mix of length, power, and quickness. Young has to be the tone-setter inside the trenches Friday night against a physical Lake Hamilton team. He display's ability to execute inline-reach blocks, which lets him get to the second level quickly. Good athletic ability with good hand placement when he fires off the LOS to create leverage and displace defenders to create running lanes. Strong anchor due to good lower body strength, core strength, bend, balance and UOH to control pass rushers. If Young can dominate early, it will help open up the Rams offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1362792' first='Hayden' last='Barton'] is the engine of the offense, averaging over seven yards per carry last season. In the run-first, run-heavy style between the tackles, it is important for Barton to get going with his physical north and south running ability. Barton displays good post-snap vision and a solid burst to attack the running lane. His vision allows him to locate the running lane quickly and burst through the first level and into the second level. He consistently breaks tackles due to good contact balance, leg drive, and lower body power fighting for extra yards. The Wolves HC Tommy Gilleran mentioned he could have more defensive snaps this season than offense (something to keep an eye on).

[player_tooltip player_id='1351436' first='Wally' last='Wolcott'] takes over as the starting quarterback for Lakeside after the previous quarterback graduated. Wolcott was impressive this summer during 7-on-7s and camp, showcasing good arm strength and mechanics. He's a good decision-maker capable of progressing through multiple reads. His strong arm can deliver the ball across all levels of the field with good ball placement and anticipation, setting up his receivers effectively. If he can get in rhythm early, he can be hard to rattle, and we will see the future of the Lakeside Rams over the next two years.

As a Scout, [player_tooltip player_id='1227649' first='Ben' last='Vincent'] sprung onto our radar this spring, becoming one of my favorite prospects in the class of 2025. He is a versatile receiver with position flexibility who can play the X, Z, or slot position due to his strong hands, quickness, and ability to create separation. Vincent can open up the offense as he displays good acceleration off the line with good footwork and quickness to eat up space quickly. Smooth and fluid route running with good breaks due to good change of direction, burst, and balance to create that separation. Showcases good awareness to locate and exploit open spaces vs zone coverage. Good hand-eye coordination, body control, and balance to high-point the ball or adjust mid-route. He is a true threat due to his ability to gain yards after the catch (YAC), bolstered by his burst and lateral agility.

Solid post-snap vision to read defensive fronts and first-level defenders, allowing him to attack the hole with a good burst. Good contact balance, footwork, and patience through the LOS.
