The 2024 season is officially here with the final scrimmages of the preseason taking place this past Week. Here are a few of the performances that caught my eye during Scrimmage Week 2 in N/NW/W Georgia.

[player_tooltip player_id='401548' first='Moss' last='Tant'] - 2026 QB - Rome Wolves

There was a lot of speculation in the off season on who was going to take over at QB1 after the graduation of 4-year starter Reece Fountain. Tant, a 6'3 Junior, did a good job in his audition Thursday night verse the Class AA runner up Rockmart Yellow Jackets. Tant completed 17 of 20 passes with 4 1st half TDs in the Wolves 58-6 win. Has a strong arm and good pocket awareness. An accurate deep ball passer that will have a lot of talented targets to throw to this Fall. Good upside and one to watch as Rome opens the season verse Creekside in the Corky Kell Classic.

Jeremey "JJ" Winston - 2026 WR - Rome Wolves

The 6'3 145 WR is already a next level prospect on the basketball and he showed in the Rockmart scrimmage that he has the potential to be one on the football field as well. He was on the receiving end of 4 TDs in the 1st half scoring from 31, 36, 24 and 22 yards out. Tall skinny guy with great basketball hands. He was stock riser this off season in the Prep Hoops rankings and would not be surprised to see him appear in the football rankings later this Fall.

Brock Newland - 2027 MLB - Bremen Blue Devils

I never would have guessed this kid was a sophomore from the way he plays. Great anticipation and breaks quick to the point of attack. Physical tackler that forced a couple of fumbles during the Mt. Zion scrimmage. A new name for me this Fall and look forward to tracking his progress as a part of a very good Bremen defense in '24.

[player_tooltip player_id='1566608' first='Carter' last='Triplett'] - 2025 QB - Christian Heritage Lions

Triplett is a name we know well here at Prep Redzone, not the 1st time we have mentioned him, and will not be the last. The 6'4 220 Senior accounted for over 2800 yards and 30 TDs last Fall and looked like he is ready to pick of where he left off if Friday's scrimmage is any indication. He passed for 5 total TDs, 4 in the 1st Q, in a scrimmage win over Murray Co. Big body that is a dual threat and can be a problem for defenses when he gets to running downhill. Good arm and accuracy. A next level QB.

Cole Runion - 2025 DB - Ringgold Tigers

Runion some how slipped under my radar last season. The 6'0 165 DB/WR was a All Region selection on defense last season after averaging 8.2 tackles a game. He has had a very productive two weeks heading into their season opener next week at Dade Co. Last week vs Chattanooga Prep he made an athletic INT at the goal line and returned it out to mid field to end the scoring threat and added a 31 yard TD reception on offense. Friday he had a 75 yard INT return for a TD in a win over Walker Valley at Findley Stadium in Chattanooga. He is on my radar now and look forward to seeing him in person at their season opener Thursday.
