PRZVA Team Preview: Manassas Park Cougars

The Cougars returned to the high school football scene last fall after an extended leave and they finished their 2023 campaign on a high note. Playing running back, quarterback and receiver offensively, its on defense at safety where Cuthbertson really shines. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Coach Teague had to establish a new identity last fall and Cutbertson was among their leaders. A team first type of guy, he makes plays in the Cougars secondary. Look for Rector at both receiver and defensive back for what should give Manassas Park more speed on the back end. Playing a ton both sides as a sophomore Fernandez is back at outside linebacker where he is a real thumper. It appears that the young man will be the signal caller at quarterback for the Cougars, which should take pressure of [player_tooltip player_id='1364904' first='Daniel' last='Cuthbertson']. As I said above Cuthbertson did a little dabbling at the qb spot and now with Lithisack in the fold Coach can make the most of his best players. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There was no film on the sophomore to be, but that is coming soon! Lithisack will have a good stable of playmakers at his disposal.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Head Coach thoughts on the off-season:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>“Summer workouts have been productive. Still a lot of learning to do with this rebuild, so progress forward in every aspect has been the focus. 2023 season needed on a positive note with key wins and a tough one 1 point loss late in the season. Kids are looking to build on that positive vibe for a successful 2024 season and hopefully erase the long stigma of futility here at Manassas Park.“</em> Head Coach Mark Teague</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Season Outlook:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Year 2 of the rebuild for Coach Teague and the Cougars is well under way and it is quite the climb Manassas Park is facing. An independent schedule that includes playoff teams from a year ago such as Skyline, William Monroe and Armstrong in 2024 will be quite the challenge. The entire Manassas Park community is thrilled to have football back and will support this program regardless.
