I have never gone into a season more excited than I am heading into the 2024 High School Season.

After an organizational meeting between Prep Redzone Kansas Scouts our team is prepared and organized better than ever before.

I don't want to share all of the details, because I want Wade Cargile and Santino Bernal to have a chance to explain their roles and areas of focus.

I want to share with athletes and coaches that my primary coverage area will be west of Lawrence and north of McPherson to the Colorado and Nebraska state lines. I live in Topeka and will stay fairly close to home, but that gives coaches and athletes, an idea of which scout to contact.

There will be some crossover between schools and positions, but our current coverage plan will allow us to cover more teams and players than ever before as we have focused on geographic areas and positions to hone in on.

During the season I will be focusing on offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and linebackers in terms of mid-week reports from all schools in the state.

Eight-man and six-man programs across Kansas should consider me their primary contact. Our other scouts will be focused on Class 6A-1A programs.

Our team of scouts will be averaging anywhere from three to seven reports a week, therefore, the content will be free-flowing all season long.

Please feel free to DM all of us on the X platform @KSScoutDeck, @BernalPRZKs, and @cargile_wade. Schedules, season previews, roster information, and stat packs will make it easier for us to provide the type of coverage we are striving for. Coaches posting stats on Max Preps and players posting stats on X will assist with our coverage.

Coaches can also reach out to me via email at deckscoutks@gmail.com. I am still working on which football and volleyball games to attend this fall, so hit me up.

Please let me know if you would like me to scout a preseason practice, scrimmage, or jamboree.

In the meantime here is a look at five Kansas prospects in my coverage area. I look forward to catching them and their teammates playing this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='571068' first='Gage' last='Gibson'], OL, 6'4”, 220, Salina Central, ‘25

Gibson is a powerful tackle and is ranked No. 39 overall in the class of 2025. Salina Central is expected to be strong, big, and experienced along their offensive line. Gibson enters his senior season with an offer from Washburn University. Right now, I am planning on attending the Mustangs' season opener against Salina Central. However, my schedule is always flexible, but that game is about 90 percent locked in.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115459' first='King' last='Leonard'], DB, 5'10”, 175, Washburn Rural, ‘25

Washburn Rural graduated a large and talented senior class. About half a dozen Rural grads will shorty starting fall practice for the Washburn Ichabods. One key holdover from last season's squad is defensive back Leonard. The Blues' prospect is a ball hawk grabbing nine interceptions last season. He has been connected to Benedictine, Emporia State, and Missouri Western, although I have not seen him post news of any official offers yet. Rural will be a team I catch at least once this season if not multiple times. Leonard is currently ranked No. 49 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas.

[player_tooltip player_id='780089' first='David' last='Wakes'], ATH, 5'10”, 180, Shawnee Heights, ‘26

Wakes is an explosive athlete and has been garnering a ton of attention from college programs this offseason. He has made visits or gotten promotional material from such schools as Kansas State, Pittsburg State, and Central Missouri. Head Coach Jason Swift does a great job of selling his players to college programs and assisting in getting them exposure. I plan on catching an early Thunderbirds practice during the first week that schools can get after it. Wakes is currently ranked No. 27 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='1228892' first='Scholar' last='Brown'], WR, 6'0”, 170, Junction City, ‘26

Brown is a quick and slick back who can break ankles. He is currently ranked No. 59 overall in the class of 2026. Junction City head coach Randall Zimmerman is one of the humblest coaches in the state and one I have worked closely with since my days at the Topeka Capital Journal. He is an old school coach so his players have to fight for exposure on social media and by attending camps and clinics. The Blue Jays are always a well-disciplined squad and built around speed. After a recent schedule change, it looks like I might catch Junction City's home game against Lawrence on a Thursday night in September.

[player_tooltip player_id='557340' first='Warrick' last='VanBlaricon'], OL, 6'4”, 285, Salina Central, ‘27

VanBlaricon is ranked No. 2 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027 as he enters his sophomore season. He should be a key cog on the Mustang offensive line. He is a solid self-promoter and has been working hard all summer to improve his skills and his exposure to college programs. He has natural size. The next three seasons for him will be about improving his strength, speed, and blocking technique. I can't wait for a chance to see him in person.
