The lowcountry covers a wide range and that leads to several playmakers and outstanding performances each week. We looked over what happened in Week Zero and checked the matchups for this week and determined these players have a chance to make the biggest impact this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='502413' first='Tavien' last='Orellana'] QB, Philip Simmons

The three-year starter came up huge in the Iron Horses season opening win over Hanahan. He threw two touchdown passes and 115 yards and will need more of that against a strong Lucy Beckham defense. Philip Simmons only had 147 yards rushing so they might need Orellana to throw more this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1039208' first='Hank' last='Aeppli'] LB, Lucy Beckham

The senior linebacker recorded 14 tackles and a tackle for loss as they held West Ashley to 10 points in a season-opening loss. Now the Bengals face a high-scoring Philip Simmons team that is coming off a victory. Junior safety Goode Walton added 13 tackles.

[player_tooltip player_id='402499' first='Kymani' last='Clary'] QB, Goose Creek

By now, everyone knows what running back [player_tooltip player_id='473027' first='Meliq' last='McGowan'] (201 yards and three touchdowns last week) can do but Clary added another dimension with two rushing touchdowns on his own. The Gators get to test their metal against Fort Dorchester this week and they will need big games from both Clary and McGowan.

[player_tooltip player_id='473024' first='Ryan' last='Campbell'] RB, Fort Dorchester

Campbell showed he's ready to be the featured back for the Patriots. He opened the season with 154 yards and two touchdowns and added two receptions for 15 yards in a win over Beaufort. This Fort Dorchester team is trying to ease sophomore QB [player_tooltip player_id='640683' first='Kevin' last='Johnson'] and only threw the ball nine times last week. Campbell faces a tough Goose Creek defense this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1165148' first='Jachin' last='Davis'] QB, Stratford

The Knights only played a half last week when the contest against Summerville was halted due to reported gun fire. Stratford will still be working out the kinks and it doesn't get any easier with a neutral site contest with Daniel. Davis is talented and will have to be the guiding force for the Knights offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260387' first='Mikey' last=''] Jenkins ATH and Kai Correia WR, Wando

The Warriors opened the Isaiah Perrin era with a win over Socastee. Jenkins and Correia each had rushing touchdowns and will need to help the ground game this week against Hanahan. Wando did get three interceptions from [player_tooltip player_id='1578818' first='Cole' last='Fletcher'] but can't count on that each week so will need more production from the offense.

Takota Stephens RB, Hanahan

The Hawks are looking to replace one of the most productive running backs in school history and Stephens had a decent opening night. His output each week will be key as Hanahan looks to run the ball and pass it just as well with [player_tooltip player_id='1165104' first='Julius' last='Hippenstiel'] back at quarterback.

[player_tooltip player_id='1575332' first='AJ' last='Hamilton'] DB, May River

All Hamilton did last week was record seven tackles with a caused fumble and a recovered fumble along with a pass defended and a blocked field goal in a season-opening win over Airport. Now they face a West Ashley team that hopes to find a better offensive performance after scoring just 10 points in a win last week.

Daivd Dounian QB, West Ashley

Dounian tossed the only TD of the game to [player_tooltip player_id='1295653' first='Ethan' last='Ranew'] but the Wildcats are going to need more offense against May River this week. Dounian was more of a runner last season with over 1,000 yards rushing and he threw for 770. If the passing game opens, West Ashley could be a force with a ground attack that ran for over 3,500 yards last season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1157754' first='JJ' last='Fludd'] RB, Porter-Gaud

The Cyclones are off to a 2-0 start and Fludd has six touchdowns with three in each game. Porter-Gaud is averaging 61 points per game. They face a 0-2 Savannah Country Day team this week but have a potential state championship game preview with Hammond on Sept. 6. Fludd is an obvious threat each time he touches the ball.

MJ Davis QB, Northwood Academy

Davis came into the season as the backup quarterback but has stepped in and the Chargers are 3-0 on the season. He scored twice last week in a win over Pinewood Prep. He's taking some of the pressure off RB Keshon Singleton and that should help the Northwood offense as they move deeper into the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='402509' first='Trevor' last='Kalisz'] QB, Ashley Ridge

Kalisz had a so-so performance in the opener. He threw for 258 yards and two scores but also threw two interceptions, one that was returned for a touchdown. The Swamp Foxes only rushed for 77 yards so their success might fall on the arm of Kalisz.

[player_tooltip player_id='1359137' first='Yasir' last='Smith'] DL, Summerville

The Green Wave will be eager to get back on the field against South Florence. The game with Stratford was halted at halftime. Smith is a converted tight end but will be a huge factor on a new look defense for Summerville. And given the fact the Bruins might be using their fourth team running back, Smith could be in line for a huge night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1426798' first='Cameron' last='McCue'] DB, Berkeley

The sophomore had a pick-six and recorded three tackles in the season-opening win. The Stage take to the road this week to play Winter Park in Florida and will be facing a team that finished last season with a 9-1 record. McCue and his defensive teammates will have to be up to the challenge to allow QB [player_tooltip player_id='1036733' first='Henry' last='Rivers'] and the offense a chance.

[player_tooltip player_id='1012859' first='Karmello' last='Jones'] RB and [player_tooltip player_id='1172364' first='Mah'ky' last='Green'] RB, Cross

The duo combined to rush for 290 yards last week with Jones also adding 10 tackles in a shutout last week. Green had an 84-yard touchdown run. If those two continue to run the ball that effectively, the Trojans might be a team to keep your eye on all season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1346277' first='Lorenzo' last='Kitching'] WR, North Charleston

The Cougars opened with a 38-0 shutout of Military Magnet where Kitching caught 10 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Add in the 101 yards rushing from freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1467813' first='Raymond' last='Middleton'] and it was a good night all the way around. But a tougher test is ahead this week with an outstanding Cross defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1254143' first='Samari' last='Bonds'] QB, Beaufort

The Eagles came up short against Fort Dorchester, but Bonds threw for 169 yards and ran for an additional 151 yards. Bonds is dynamic for certain but the remainder of the Beaufort rushing attack only had 51 yards on 14 carries. That must improve against a Greenwood team playing its first game.

Jaseyvion Brown DB, James Island

Brown totaled 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and caused a fumble in the Trojans 17-14 loss to Gray Collegiate. James Island hung their hat on a stingy defense last season, and they face a Hilton Head squad that scored 65 points last week. Brown and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='272709' first='Malachi' last='Jefferson'] will have to be up to the task.

[player_tooltip player_id='1603740' first='Thaddeus' last='Czarnecki'] RB, Hilton Head

Nearly everyone got involved for the Seahawks in the 65-point win over Stall, the largest margin of victory for Hilton Head in at least two decades. They rushed for 342 yards as a team with Czarnecki leading the way with 88 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Things might not be as easy going forward but it was a confidence builder for sure.
