Great Performances

The 2024 season is here and teams are looking to get off to a good start. Coaches realize that the first few weeks of the season are important to set the tone for the fall. In the state of Alabama, there were many great team performances. After the first weekend of games, several players are serving notice that they're prepared to lead their teams throughout the year.    [player_tooltip player_id='1301122' first='Bryson' last='Riggins'] showed why he is considered by some as one of the top QB prospects in the Class of 2026. After putting up some incredible numbers this summer in 7-on-7 camps, he continued to play extremely well this weekend. In the 32-0 win over Carroll High School, Riggins displayed big arm strength and pinpoint accuracy throughout the night. The junior connected on 15 of 24 passes for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns. Riggins is an outstanding leader and a relentless worker. We're expecting a huge season from Riggins this fall.     Miles committed to East Carolina University in June. On Friday night, he showed why the Pirates are sold on the linebacker. Miles is a defensive force for the Grissom Tigers and he proved his worth in the 41-6 win over Lee-Huntsville. The senior brought plenty of heat from the edge and shut down the running game with several bone-jarring hits. He finished the night with 13 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss and a QB sack. Miles will be exciting to watch in 2024.     After a standout career at defensive back, Gibbons makes the transition to quarterback this season. Described by Volunteer fans as "just a winner", Gibbons proved to be a strong competitor that will lead his team this fall. Making his first start behind center, Gibbons, known as "Soap", put on a memorable performance. He completed 7 of 10 passes for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. With his legs, Gibbons tacked on 2 more scores in a 40-7 win over Handley.     The class of 2026 is loaded with talented quarterbacks. [player_tooltip player_id='595070' first='Mason' last='Burkhardt'] of Enterprise is near the top. The left-handed junior treated the fans to a glimpse of his accuracy and play-making ability as the Wildcats upended Andalusia 35-7. Burkhardt throws an excellent deep ball but also delivers the ball on time. In the season opener, Burkardt was near perfect, connecting on 11 of 12 passes for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for another 63 yards in the win.     There are some players that you can only describe as an athlete. Moore is simply a baller! From his defensive back spot, the senior shows a confidence that allows him to make plays against the run or pass. In Friday's game, Moore stopped one drive by forcing a fumble inside the 10 yard line. Later, the Austin Peay commit was at it again knocking the ball lose at the goal line. Moore would finish the game with 10 tackles in addition to the pair of forced turnovers.     The New Hope-Ohatchee game on Friday lit up the scoreboard. The 76-71 final goes down as the 2nd most points scored in an AHSAA game history. [player_tooltip player_id='1433129' first='Dawson' last='Cambron'] is a huge reason for the New Hope offensive onslaught. The senior finished the night with 387 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns. Cambron hauled in several screen passes and eluded defenders for huge gains, showing great quickness and vision. New Hope may not put up 70-plus every week, but Cambron will be an offensive star for the Indians.
