2024 WV Team Preview: Oak Hill Red Devils

They're primed for another playoff season with hopes of making it farther after a first-round loss to eventual state runner-up Princeton. The Red Devils added a huge piece to that puzzle with the addition of former Woodrow Wilson 2026 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='897503' first='Devin' last='Richardson'] who ranks among the Top 5 passers in his class. He'll have quite the contrast of offensive systems in his new program coming from a Wing-T system into an RPO-oriented offense which should showcase his next-level abilities further. The 6'0 205 bruiser rushed for 1,200 yards as a junior last season and will return to lead their rushing attack again in 2024. He's a stout one-cut-and-go runner who rarely goes down on first contact but is nimble enough to sidestep defenders too. Mauritz runs behind his pads well and is not someone you want to meet with a full head of steam coming at you. He has the speed to separate from defenders in the open field at times and is explosive through the hole. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Linebacker is likely his future but without any film of that position, it's tough to determine his ceiling at that spot. He recently debuted inside the 2025 Top 150 during the summer update and is receiving D2 attention heading into his senior year. Champion is a well-rounded offensive lineman who is only hurt by his lack of prototypical length but has all of the other tools to develop into a future college stater. He'll be another receiving target for Richardson to spread the ball to and could end up being a dynamic slot receiver in their offense. Hicks can stretch the field from the slot vertically with big play potential in their system. From the film available, he has serious YAC ability and is very slippery in the open field whose lack of size benefits him in that regard. He'll be counted on to replace some of the lost receiving production due to graduation as Oak Hill looks for some players to step up at those spots this season. Spack has garnered D3 looks this off-season including an offer from Mount St. Joseph (PA) and should receive more this season with a step forward in his development from his junior year. Ludwig got his sophomore film posted since our last update and his potential and upside are some of the best in this class. Standing at 6'3 220, Ludwig projects as a defensive end to the next level as he continues to fill out his big frame. He's already caught the attention of WV State as the Yellow Jackets extended him his first offer back in June. Ludwig is a long and explosive athlete with a quick first step and good short-area quickness. He uses his hands well at this early stage of his career and is very strong at the point of attack. If Ludwig doesn't beat his man on his first step, he has the strength to blow bigger offensive linemen off the ball and is very disruptive. He has all of the tools to develop into a big-time prospect by his senior year with his size and natural athleticism. Treadway ran a 4.48 40 this off-season and you can see that next-level speed on film from his freshman season. He's also a well-built athlete with that kind of speed at 6'2 195 which gives him a very high ceiling as a prospect in the future. Once he gets a crease and a step on the outside, there aren't many athletes in West Virginia who can catch him which is saying something for just a rising sophomore.
