I am venturing for my first preseason standouts list from Iowa, and our first stop is in the North Iowa Cedar League. Consisting of 15 teams from Northern Iowa, I've been really impressed with the talents from this group. These QBs elevate their teams with the leadership they bring for the offense, and the skill and athleticism that they bring to the table should certainly be intriguing for college teams recruiting. I was able to find 5 QBs that should be on the watchlist for this season from the North Iowa Cedar League!

While Olwein struggled to an 0-8 record last season, the team became more confident over the course of the season with the development of a young QB on the team, [player_tooltip player_id='1370649' first='Maddox' last='Pattison']. Pattison looked to be a great Pro-Style QB, selling the play-action well and hitting several nice passes on the run. Olwein showcased solid athleticism, a great arm, and excellent footwork and balance in the pocket, while also being an agile scrambler, capable of making double-moves and spins around defenders. Olwein will become a lot more competitive again as Pattison continues to develop his passing mechanics.

[player_tooltip player_id='1360051' first='Kanen' last='Decker'] is one of the most dangerous scrambling QBs in Northern Iowa. He finished last season with over 600 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. Decker shows great speed and agility on the ground, and this speed has also made him versatile as a punt returner, taking back 3 punts to the crib last season. As a passer, Decker throws well out of the pocket, keeping his eyes down the field, and has a solid arm. Decker's versatility will make him a coveted prospect as an Athlete, but Decker's skillset makes him a great leader for Wapsie's offense, and he looks to help Wapsie win the state title at the end of his senior season.

Jesup significantly improved last season, posting their first winning record since 2015, and much of it came thanks to Ryan Treptow's brilliant performance last season. Treptow honed his skillset to fit more of a dual-threat role last season, and the offense became a lot more dangerous as a result. Treptow finished with over 1300 combined yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns en route to earning first-team all-district honors for the 2nd consecutive year as well as first-team all-conference honors. Treptow continued to showcase his arm strength as a passer while flashing quick speed on the ground, whether taking a draw up the middle or scrambling outside the pocket. If Treptow can sharpen his accuracy as a passer, Treptow will soar as a top QB prospect in Iowa by the end of the season.

While Jacob Farrington had his fair share of up-and-down performances during his junior season, Farrington showed to be a competitive, driven leader for East Marshall. Farrington's athleticism shouldn't be ignored, as he posted a 4.72 40 yard dash time, a 275 lb max squat, and a 335 lb max deadlift. On the field, Farrington does a nice job at reading progressions and fitting passes through some difficult windows. Farrington improved from last season in his down-field accuracy and showed better arc in his throws getting passes over defenders. Farrington is an underrated name that shouldn't be ignored as he looks to make a promising final run for the Mustangs this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1699681' first='Amani' last='Robinson'] will have an interesting battle ahead taking over the starting QB job for Columbus Catholic in 2024 following the departure of Carter Lockert. Robinson's size and frame at this age looks excellent for his age. He's already grown to be one of the best basketball players on his team, coming off an all-conference selection last season, and his combination of length, power, and speed on the court could translate very well onto the field. It will take time for Robinson to settle into the starting QB position, but there is a very good chance that Robinson will become a breakout star in 2024.
