The 2028 class has yet to start its freshman season, but several names on Prep Redzone Louisiana's first official watch list for the cycle should already be familiar to subscribers.

At least 12 talented young student-athletes have already garnered varying coverage on the site during the past two years from some early 7-on-7 standout performances to already warranting mention in their high school teams' offseason spotlights this summer.

One of the biggest names for fans to know in a particularly intriguing 2028 class at New Iberia power Westgate was among the eye-catchers at the Bootleggers' Lafayette area tryout this winter. Archangel's tall, long frame and strong build and all-around athleticism moving smoothly in space and playing the ball made him an eye-catching linebacker in the 7v7 setting. Whether he ends up at that position long-term or more likely on the defensive line or at tight end may be the biggest question, but the promising early traits area ll there to be a difference-maker.

Another program with one of Louisiana's top waves of young talent coming through, St. James actually had a dynamic duo among the eye-catchers from a 12U tournament championship team on the 7v7 circuit nearly 18 months ago. Both Brown and Mitchell, both younger brothers of other notable Wildcats standouts, have shown themselves as two-way playmakers during middle-school action, but keep an early eye in particular on Brown as a quick-footed corner and Mitchell as a pass-catcher already with good size and ball skills.

Brown and Mitchell haven't been the only budding young Wildcats standouts to earn some early Prep Redzone Louisiana recognition, as the freshman quarterback with the big build and big arm saw meaningful reps this summer working behind and pushing his 2027 teammate for the opportunity to follow big shoes the program graduated at the position.

If fans didn't already know Davis this February, the tall, athletic pass-catcher put on an absolute show at Prep Redzone's 7v7 tournament in Houston, including an unreal leaping, one-handed touchdown grab in the back of the end zone that had to be in the mix among top plays on the circuit by any Louisiana athlete this spring. He ended up at St. Martinville this summer for high school where he appears to have a chance at some early playing time for a notable program in the Lafayette area.

"Boogie" has not only already been earning Prep Redzone Louisiana recognition for the better part of a year, but excelling as a full-blown playmaker at the varsity level for one of the state's top small-school programs. Johnson was a versatile standout for the Division-IV Select runner-up Rebels as an eighth-grader, including six catches for 124 yards, a 27-yard touchdown pass and four kick returns for 61 yards on the Caesars Superdome turf in the state title game.

Another key member of that aforementioned Westgate class, the long, ball-hawking safety — and also multisport star among the area's top young basketball players — earned his first Prep Redzone Louisiana mention early this year as an eye-catcher at a Bootleggers' "KickOff" Showcase with his instinctive play and ground he covered on the back end of the defense, even in a setting that featured matchups against older opponents.

The Division-III Select champion Cavaliers graduated several talented, veteran standouts from one of the state's top secondaries, but look to be strong once again this fall with a long, athletic freshman corner looking likely to play an early role with the group. At the Ragin' Cajuns' annual high school 7v7 tournament this summer, McDaniel held his own in a bigger role with a couple older teammates missing for college trips and drew a nod on the event's eye-catchers list.

Another of Louisiana's top young multisport stars on both the football field and the basketball court, Monroe is a tall, athletic pass-catcher who has shown strides this offseason in his skillset as a route-runner and should have the chance to earn early playing time for his Class 5A Bears, one of the Lafayette area's traditional powers and recent state champions. In a preseason in which former East Feliciana and Zachary star Trey'Dez Green is generating early buzz for his impressive LSU freshman camp performance, Monroe is among the state's most intriguing young candidates to watch in potentially fitting a similar blueprint as hybrid receiver/tight end weapons.

Even before starting his freshman year, "Deuce" has already earned college offers from Southern, Florida State and Tulane and interest from LSU and others — a testament to the sky-high potential for the young receiver prospect expected to be a two-way playmaker already at the Class 5A level for his Eagles. Ursin already stands out physically among older peers and has the impressive athleticism and ball skills to go with the measurables.

The talented quarterback-receiver duo was electric together for the Zachary Elite youth program plays its home games on the big Broncos' high school field and, even as 14U-eligible players, garnered their first Prep Redzone Louisiana mention for their performance at Bootleggers' 15U tryouts this past winter. Both Wesley and Dunn are gifted athletes with the ball in their hands, but also both impressive skill at their age from the former's feel for the pocket and touch on his passes to the latter's route-running and ball skills.
