With the 2027 ranking updates officially in the books, I wanted to kickoff the reporting highlights on some of the top players in the Wichita and the Surrounding Area between ranking level 20-40. My teammate at PRZ, Jeremy Deckard, will be handling the the top players as we give the 2027 class the full-court press.

In this report I will take a look at five future stars coming up on the all-important sophomore season. The article may cover a mixed bag of positions but there is no mix up in regard to these guys being ballers on the rise. All five have been in major training mode in the off-season and are getting ready to go off this fall.

So, without further adieu, I bring you, the Mid-Week Five:

[player_tooltip player_id='935500' first='Timi' last='Moronfolu'], 5'10, 175, DB, Eisenhower, is ranked #24. He is coming off a solid start to his high school career and has been hitting it hard in the off-season at numerous camp and clinics. He is a smooth, athletic, multi-positional player who can light things up as a wide receiver on offense or as a ballhawk defensive back. He is also a dangerous kick returner who is a threat to take it to the house on every kick. On defense he can play any of the defensive back positions but is particularly effective as a smothering corner who can play bump and run or sink into zone and bait quarterbacks to throw his way. He is still developing his top-end athleticism but he has already demonstrated excellent instincts and read and react skills. He recently clocked a 4.6 forty and has outstanding closing speed flying to the football. Get out and see a stud in the making this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='637193' first='Brekston' last='Young'], 6'0, 170, QB, Eisenhower, is ranked #28. Another playmaker quarterback who has been busy with the 7v7-camp-clinic circuit this off-season. I recently did an article mentioning his already impressive resume, which mentioned him being included in the @qbhitlist Top 200 as both a pocket and dual-threat QB. He has been working on his quarterback mechanics and footwork in the off-season and is making significant progress harnessing his elite skills. Dropping back he has a solid base with well-trained feet that he uses effectively moving in the pocket. He has a compact shoulder rotation and quick release and can make any of the throws, from surgical strikes in the short-to-intermediate game to excellent launch and velocity on the long ball. He can throw off platform and from different arm angles. He is a star in the making, get out and see him on the rise this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115927' first='Gunner' last='Goalden'], 6'0, 260, DL, Hesston, is ranked #30. He is coming off an excellent start, playing significantly as a freshman, and racking up an impressive 61 tackles, eight tackles for loss and four sacks. He is becoming one of the top linemen in the state and is developing a reputation as a powerful mauler in the trenches who is difficult to block with one player. Although he can play anywhere along the offensive and defensive lines, he is very effective as a defensive tackle or nose guard where he blows up the running game between the tackles. He has a powerful base with weaponized hands that he uses to dispose of blockers on his way to the ball. He has a strong first step and moves well laterally and in pursuit. Once he arrives at the point of impact he delivers a pulverizing hit. Get out and see a terror in the trenches while you still can this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1052898' first='Vincent' last='Rosas'], 5'9, 150, ATH, Maize, is ranked #34. A versatile, athletic, multi-positional player, he is coming off a solid start to his high school career as a scrappy football player who can go both ways and is also an accomplished wrestler. On the offensive side of the ball he can play split out wide or in the slot. He has good hands and makes the tough contested catch. Where he really shines, however, is as a solid all-around defensive back who can line up as a suffocating cornerback or sink deep as a safety and read the quarterback's eyes before flying to the football. He has good speed, quick feet and moves well flowing laterally or when chasing down speedy running backs on the perimeter. He is also a reliable open-field tackler, who will deliver a significant blow when he arrives. He is getting ready to take his game to the next level this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1083296' first='Ryan' last='Slaughter'], 6'3, 265, OL, Wichita East is ranked #35. He is coming off a solid start last fall getting some exposure to the high school game and showing he is going to be a player to be reckoned with in 2024. He is a versatile interior lineman who can line up anywhere along the defensive front. He has excellent size with a strong base and heavy hands that he uses to pound blockers into submission. With his strength and good reach he strikes a powerful initial blow to the defender and effectively keeps blockers off his pads. He has a quick first step and moves well laterally, demonstrating excellent closing speed for his size. He can hammer the running game, or shoot the gap to cause disruption in the backfield. He is making top-end strides toward being a real force in the trenches this fall. Get out and see a warrior in the making in 2024.

In conclusion, get these guys on your watchlist. They are getting ready to make some serious noise this fall. And, as always, if anyone knows of players flying under the radar feel free to reach out to CoolDaddyO via DM on X.
