The RB/LB proved to be a catalyst for much of Maryvale's success in 2023. And the exciting thing is that there is still two more years left in his High School career. He is a superb athlete that is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Tryon actually averaged 1 touchdown for every 5 attempts, between offense and as a Kick Returner. He is solid, whether he is playing in man-to-man or zone. His awareness is remarkable and he is a playmaker. Irby also led the Flyers in receiving yards in 2023. None are bigger than their first game and their final game. The Flyers open the season in Tioga Center, NY to take on the Tioga Tigers. The Tigers are a Section 4 team entering this game coming off their 3rd straight State Championship in Class D and a 40 game win streak. Maryvale will end the season in Lackawanna to take on last season's #1 seed in Class B for Section VI.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3 Things Going For The</strong> Flyers</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1242404' first='Isaiah' last='Hill'] and [player_tooltip player_id='807029' first='Brayden' last='Tryon'] make for possibly the best RB tandem in New York State</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A shut down defense. Although they lost the game, Maryvale held Health Sciences, whom averaged 39 points per game, to just 14 in the Class B playoffs in 2023. Most of those dominate defensive players will be back for the 2024 season</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Flyers have a young up-and-coming group of Offensive Linemen</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1 Area of Concern</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The passing game. Their running game is so dominate, Maryvale has not had to show off what their air attack looks like. QB Jaxsyn Moritz is a phenomenal athlete that converted from Defensive Back but it is unknown if he can take over an offense if their running game gets shut down.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Last Word</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maryvale has an extraordinary coaching staff that has compiled an overall record of 18-2 the past two seasons. There is an old-school feel with the Flyers where they control the game by running the ball and playing lights out defense. Overall, they will be a successful team and make the playoffs as a high seed. If they are able to establish their QB play and be a multi-dimensional offense, Maryvale should win a Section VI title this year, their first since 1985.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
