Gilmer was one of the surprise teams in North Georgia in 2023. They went 7-5 and made the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs, losing to a very talented Monroe Area team. The fans in Ellijay have to be excited for the 2024 season as the Bobcats bring back a lot of talent and experience from last years squad. Below are a few of the players I think have next level potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='885985' first='Peyton' last='Chancey'] - 2027 RB/LB - Gilmer

The 5'11 185 3 sport athlete was a 2nd Team All Region ILB selection last fall as a freshman. I saw him live this off season in a Freshman All-Star game where he was all over the field making tackles. Strong, tough kid with a non-stop motor that is natural leader on the field. He made a huge impact for the Bobcats last season on both sides of the ball. He was one of the teams leaders in TT and TFL and rushed for 357 yards and averaged over 6 yards per carry. He just took home the most recent Bobcat Iron Man Title. High football IQ that will develop into a next level prospect over the next 3 seasons.

Douglas "Bubba" Callihan - 2027 RB/OLB - Gilmer

Another Bobcat that was selected to the 2nd Team All Region team as a freshman. The 6'0 215 multisport athlete, like the above mentioned Chancey, has a non stop motor and loves to play football. Callihan was another player we saw live this Spring in the NEGA Recruit Freshman All Star game. Was one of the most active players at the LB spot with good speed and agility. Physical tackler that will put up 100+ TT in a season before his high school career is over. Was a playmaker on both sides of the ball last Fall rushing for over 500 yards and adding 42 TT, INT, and 9 TFL on the defensive side. Led the team in receptions and receiving TDs. Excellent student and weight room warrior. Already has the size to get looks at the next level.

Issac Rellinger - 2025 QB - Gilmer

The 6'0 165 is a great game manager. He has the speed and quickness to pull the ball down and get positive yards with his legs or drop back and hurt you with a quick throw. Rellinger manages a complex offense with a lot of moving parts and has to be a quick decision maker. He accounted for a little over 1200 total yards last season with 14 total TDs and averaged close to 7 yards per carry in leading the Bobcats to the 2nd Round of the playoffs. A solid athlete that could transition to SB/WR at the next level.

Hunter Britain - 2026 RB/DB - Gilmer

The 5'10 160 RB/DB is another multisport Bobcat that was a 2nd Team All Region selection last season as a Sophomore. He rushed for over 500 yards with 6 TDs on just 67 carries and averaged 7.5 yards per attempt. He has deceptive speed out of the backfield and good vision at the LOS identifying holes to run through. His bread and butter may be on the defensive side of the ball. His vision transitions over to the defensive side of ball where he is quickly able to read plays and adjust. Good downhill tackler. Had 48 TT with 12 PBU last Fall. Another Bobcat that gets it done in the classroom and in the weight room. Good potential and we look for a breakout Junior season this Fall in Elijay.
