ENMU 7x7: Outstanding QBs and Bracket Playoff Video

<p>Just based on how the game is designed, 7-on-7 is a quarterback-driven competition. You need a QB who can make accurate throws from the pocket or on the run. Here are some of the best quarterbacks we saw Friday at the Eastern New Mexico 7x7 event in Portales:</p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1119255' first='Brock' last='Beaty'], Hobbs</strong>: If we named an MVP of Friday's competition, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Beaty would be the choice. He shared snaps with the graduated Owen Callaway last season but now the job is exclusively his. He showed Friday he's ready for the challenge with an impressive pocket presence, great leadership skills and a strong arm. And he has some weapons to target, the most intriguing of which might be junior RB/WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1266895' first='Gabe' last='Henry']</strong>, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder with elite athleticism to match his impressive size.    </p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='615523' first='Paxton' last='Culpepper'], Portales</strong>: We had the opportunity to watch Culpepper at two events in Portales. First on Thursday night at PHS and then at ENMU on Friday. Culpepper is very dynamic with a strong and accurate arm, especially on deep throws. He is going into his third season as the Rams' starting QB and his experience shows. Culpepper has already thrown for nearly 5,000 yards and 66 TD.   </p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1119597' first='Kyle' last='Evenhus'], Los Alamos</strong>: Evenhus threw for close to 1,800 yards and 22 TD to help lead the Hilltoppers to the Class 5A quarterfinals in 2023. Evenhus possesses a rifle arm and can make all the throws, as he did on Friday. Los Alamos is positioned to make another playoff run in 2024.</p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155032' first='CJ' last='Granados'], Dexter</strong>: For the second straight weekend, Granados and his Demon teammates came close to stealing the show at a major 7x7 event. Last week it was Roswell, this week Portales. When you watch the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Granados fire the ball around the field, it's hard to believe he's just a sophomore. He had a fantastic freshman campaign last fall and 2024 should be even better.   </p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154930' first='Javier' last='Jimenez'], Clovis</strong>: With their recently hired head coach scheduled to arrive in town on Monday, the Wildcats are implementing a new offensive scheme. And it looks like Jimenez will be the guy to direct the offense. He has a great arm along with the speed and mobility to roll out of the pocket and make throws on the run. Jimenez is just as sophomore, so Clovis could be set at QB for the next three seasons.</p>   <p><strong>Jacob Palomino, Rowell</strong>: The Coyotes had to find a QB to replace the graduated Manny Fuentez, and it appears Palomino is the choice since he took most of the snaps on Friday. Palomino is about 6-foot-1, 175 pounds with a good arm. He's also an outstanding baseball player. Roswell looks to be in good hands at the QB position.</p>   <p><strong>Mathew Prudencio, Lovington</strong>: Prudencio led the Wildcats to the No. 1 playoff bracket seed with several impressive performances during pool play. Prudencio played behind 2023 New Mexico Heisman winner Wyatt Gomez last season and you can tell he was paying attention. Nice pocket presence. Good arm. Accurate thrower.</p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600843' first='Kamal' last='Stith'], St. Michael's</strong>: Stith competed with eventual starter [player_tooltip player_id='1119628' first='Reed' last='Bass'] for the Horsemen QB job last year but we didn't really get to see what he could do because he suffered an injury early in the season. Now Stith is healthy and it looks like St. Michael's head coach Joey Fernandez has a choice to make.
