Sights and Sounds: Week 9 (Artesia-Roswell Video/Recap)

<p><strong>ROSWELL</strong> – Artesia seized control of District 5A-2 and likely secured the No. 1 seed for the Class 5A playoffs with a 42-28 victory over Roswell Friday night in front of a large crowd at the Wool Bowl.</p>   <p>Artesia (7-1, 5-0) leads crosstown rivals Roswell (5-3, 4-1) and Goddard (6-2, 4-1) by one game in the district standings. The Bulldogs host Goddard in Week 10 at the Bulldog Bowl.</p>   <p>Quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1672571' first='Derrick' last='Warren']</strong> continued his outstanding season by completing 19-of-33 passes for 316 yards and SIX touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Roswell defense. Speedy running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1139144' first='Bryce' last='Parra']</strong> rushed for 93 yards on 18 carries to spark the Artesia ground game.</p>   <p>Artesia had two receivers with 130+ receiving yards: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1139144' first='Bryce' last='Parra']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600893' first='Trent' last='Egeland']</strong>. The latter had 8 receptions for 154 yards and 3 TD. Parra had 4 receptions for 137 yards, including a 75-yarder for a touchdown.</p>   <p>Artesia amassed 445 yards in total offense.</p>   <p>After missing a field goal on its first possession of the game, the Bulldogs got on the board first late in the first quarter when Warren and Parra connected on a 31-yard catch-and-run TD.</p>   <p>Egeland caught his first TD pass of the night with just over 9 minutes left in the second quarter when he reached over a Roswell defender to make the grab on a 9-yard pass from Warren.</p>   <p>A little more than two minutes later, Artesia made it 21-0 on Egeland's second TD grab of the game, a 10-yard pass from Warren.</p>   <p>Roswell, though, fought back with a pair of second-quarter touchdowns within a span of 3:16 when Coyotes QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1750685' first='Luke' last='Lynn']</strong> and WR <strong>Izaic Gonzales</strong> connected on a 61-yard TD and – following an Artesia fumble – promising sophomore RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1826036' first='Luis' last='Rodriguez']</strong> scored on a 6-yard run with 2:04 left before halftime.</p>   <p>Artesia was left with plenty of time to move down the field into scoring position, and that's exactly what the Bulldogs did. Warren threw his fourth TD pass of the first half when he hit <strong>Jett Fuentes</strong> for a 20-yard score with 37 seconds left in the second quarter.</p>   <p>Artesia led, 28-14, at halftime.</p>   <p>Roswell threatened to score in the third quarter, moving inside the 10-yard line. But the Artesia defense held with a ferocious stand and forced a turnover on downs at the 6-yard line.</p>   <p>Soon thereafter, Parra utilized his blazing speed to turn a screen pass into a 75-yard TD pass from Warren, pushing Artesia's lead to 35-14 in the final minute of the third quarter.</p>   <p>Roswell cut the deficit to two scores on Lynn's TD pass to TE <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599539' first='Noah' last='Estrada']</strong> with 9:29 left in the fourth quarter.
