I recently attended a media day held at the Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport located in Fayetteville, NC. The event was hosted by Carolina Recruits and invited several of the top players from the area. I was able to speak with a number of them and find out what makes these players the special talents that they are. In this article, we will focus on some of the defensive standouts in attendance.

Javon Wesley - DB - New Bern - The Class of 2025 prospect is new to the New Bern program this year, but at 6'4 and 170 pounds, Wesley already feels like a part of the program. With current offers from Fayetteville State and Presbyterian already in hand, with a strong start to the season Javon could generate even more recruiting interest with a strong start to the season. Defensive Backs with that type of length, speed, and range in coverage always are in demand from college coaches on the next level. Check out our interview below:

[player_tooltip player_id='1219063' first='Zion' last='Morrison'] - DE - Scotland County - The 6'4 225-pound EDGE prospect committed to play at North Carolina A&T university earlier this summer. I personally watched Zion up close and he has an excellent burst coming off of the edge as a pass rusher. With his size and length physically, he is the prototype of what college coaches are looking for in players to rush the passer. The Class of 2025 prospect shared with me why he committed to play for the Aggies, check it out in our interview below:

[player_tooltip player_id='1357144' first='Davian' last='Lapointe'] - DT - South View - With offers from Air Force, UNC Pembroke, Edward Waters, Kaiser, and St. Andrews since April - Davian is a Class of 2025 prospect definitely on the rise in the eyes of college coaches. At 6'1 and 260 pounds, I placed Davian as a defensive tackle, but he also can play on the offensive line as a guard. His highlights are impressive on both sides of the ball - Davian is a devastating run blocker - especially in space on pulls. Davian does a good job being an interior run stopper on the defensive line and can get quick penetration upfield as a gap player. Check out our interview below:

[player_tooltip player_id='1034840' first='Jaleel' last='Parker'] - DB - Jack Britt - The 5'11 185-pound Class of 2026 prospect currently holds an offer from Charlotte, and should honestly have more recruiting attention overall. Jaleel states that he runs a 4.4 40-yard dash on holis Twitter profile, and taking a look at his highlight film you can see he definitely has legitimate speed. From his safety position, I love how Jaleel can come up in run support and make tackles in open spaces. Check out his interview below:

[player_tooltip player_id='1152774' first='Donavan' last='Frederick'] - LB - 71st - The 6'2 Class of 2025 prospect has been a big part of the success the Falcons have achieved over the past couple of years. Donovan currently has offers from Charlotte, Air Force, Army, Charleston Southern, Alabama A&M, NC A&T, Richmond, Navy, Wofford, Alabama State, NC Central, and Campbell. When interviewing Donovan, you can tell that he's a leader and speaks with confidence about himself and his team. Check out his interview below:

[player_tooltip player_id='986465' first='Omaurie' last='Phillips'] - DB - Farmville Central - The Class of 2025 prospect stands at 6'3 and 180 pounds, and can play all over the field as a defensive player. In his highlights, Omaurie plays corner, safety, and outside linebacker. Omaurie currently has offers from Boston College and Navy, and in all honesty he should have a lot more recruiting attention. Omaurie has excellent overall speed and tackles well at any position in the open field. Omaurie shows no hesitation filling on runs when playing in the box.

Gavin Williams - LB - South View - With offers from St. Andrews and Hampden-Sydney in hand currently, the 6'0 linebacker is preparing to have a big senior season ahead of himself. Taking a look at his highlight film, I am impressed with the speed Gavin comes off the edge with as an outside linebacker in both the run game and the pass game. Gavin tackles well in space and shows strong physicality at the point of attack when taking on offensive linemen in the run game. Check out our interview below:

Jontayvious Hill - DT - Pine Forest - The 6'3 280-pound Class of 2025 prospect was named All-Conference last season. Jontayvious currently has offers from UNC Pembroke and Averett and those first offers came at the end of June. With a strong start to the season, Jontayvious should gain even more recruiting attention. Taking a look at his highlights, Jontayvious has a good explosion at the snap and uses his hands well to shed blockers at the point of attack. Check out our interview below:
