Shorter Recruit Camp: 7 Names That Caught My Eye Early

<p>Close to 600 Campers showed up at Barron Stadium on Saturday for the Zack Morrison Recruit Combine. It's hard to get an eye on everybody but here are 7 names that caught my attention early.</p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1636879' first='Astin' last='Turner']</strong> - 2025 DB Cedartown Bulldogs</p>   <p>The 6'1 175 DB from Cedartown lit up the 40 yard dash. The official numbers aren't posted yet but I'm anxiously awaiting his final numbers. Technically sound DB that can make a lot of ground quick with his speed. School record holder in the 300m hurdles. He already received an earlier offer from Shorter in May and solidified it on Saturday. Had really took technique and covered ground fast. A solid built frame that I think is primed for a breakout Senior season at Heritage. He had an outstanding Spring game returning an interception for a TD. He has added some thickness since we saw him last Summer, now at 6'2 185. Very fluid athlete with good body control. We had the chance to see him play live a few times last year and his athletic skills transfer over well to the football field. He could play any of the skill positions on either side of the ball and have success. Good size and was fluid in the metrics portion of the Camp. He recorded over 24 TFL last season for the Eagles. I've been impressed with his on the field leadership skills since the very 1st time I saw him live, as a 9th grader. Tough competitor that I hope doesn't get overlooked for playing at a smaller HS. With 600 kid there, if the staff makes a point to know your name you've done something right. Had a productive season last year on the field with close to 1000 total yards including 40 catches for 600+ yards and 5 TDs. Good route runner that has the physicality to play through contact. Fearless as a PR/KR. </p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='410508' first='Jakoby' last='Diamond']</strong> 2025 DL Cedartown Bulldogs</p>   <p>Another Cedartown product that has relatively flown under the radar. Big nasty DL that has strength and quickness and plays with passion. He tested well in the metrics and was dominate in the 1v1s on Saturday. 6'1 290 with 365 PC. Its easy to spot the tall skinny guys when they run fast but you have to see it on the clock with guys like Blake that have solid thick lower bodies. Obviously a good power runner with his frame but possess the agility and quickness to find running lanes and he has the speed to pull away from defenders. A solid linebacking prospect also with good vision.
