As the anticipation builds and the countdown to kickoff begins, several standout athletes are poised to make a significant impact. Among them are five exceptional players who have already shown the kind of effect they can have on a game. These athletes are primed for a massive senior season, ready to leave their mark on the field and help lead their teams to success.
Boston Tilton Boston Tilton 6'1" | 245 lbs | LB Higley | 2025 State AZ is such a natural linebacker for Higley. To be able to play the game at such a high speed while still remaining cerebral and smooth is a great combination. At 6’1 and 250 lbs, he has no trouble pushing blocks off of him without taking his eyes off of the backfield. With his quick feet, most linemen aren’t able to keep up and Tilton ended up with 14 sacks and 25 tackles for loss in just 13 games. It’s not just his speed and strength though, he’s got a great feel for the play as it develops and truly knows how to consistently be a disruptor. With those kinds of numbers in his junior season, there’s no telling what Tilton can do after another offseason of work. He’s going to be a massive piece of a Higley team trying to defend its 5A state championship.
Kody Guy Kody Guy 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Williams Field | 2025 State AZ is a lightning rod under center for Williams Field. He has a very nice mix of arm strength, accuracy, and speed that makes defenses’ life really difficult. Guy does a great job throwing the ball over the middle of the field, which is incredibly important at the next level, and is able to zip the ball into tight windows when he needs to. When he decides to use his legs and take off, he may not be the shiftiest of players, but he has some good top-end speed and doesn’t go down easy at 6’2″ and 200 lbs. Coming off a year where Guy threw for 1,573 yards and 14 scores, I have no doubts that Guy will take another big step heading into his senior season.
Elijah Little Elijah Little 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Thunderbird | 2025 State AZ is, without a doubt, one of the best running backs in the entire state, and he has a strong case for the top spot in the 4A division. Little’s speed and acceleration are something that defenders simply can’t keep up with. Possessing incredible twitch, Little is a back who can weave through the heart of the trenches without getting touched by more than a fingertip. If someone is able to get a more solid grasp, he still doesn’t go down easy. With surprising strength coming from his 5’8″ 160 lbs frame, he has an incredibly solid base. That strong base also gives him great balance as he takes hits and just bounces off them to continue on down the field. Little had just under 1,800 yards on the ground last year and was able to bust into the endzone 22 times. The sky’s the limit for Little after another offseason of work.
Gavin Mesa
Gavin
Mesa
6'4" | 210 lbs | TE
Chaparral | 2025
State
AZ
is a really impressive three-sport athlete out of Chaparral. At 6’4″ he’s automatically a weapon to use on the outside, but then you add in his impressive athleticism and you have an incredibly productive tight end. With his size and reach, he does a great job blocking and just doesn’t give defenders an opportunity to break off. Mesa’s a solid route runner who can use either his speed or strength to get separation. He also does a great job of keeping his legs churning which makes him incredibly hard to bring to the ground. With some changes at the quarterback position, Mesa could really make some noise for Chaparral this season.
Highlights
At 6’3″ and 260 lbs, bursting off the line as fast as Taulama Tongauiha Taulama Tongauiha 6'3" | 260 lbs | DL McClintock | 2025 State AZ shouldn’t even be possible. He’s almost always off the line and lunging towards the offensive linemen before they can even get up out of their stance. Whether he’s coming off the edge or rushing up the middle, Tongauiha’s speed proves to be too much for the offense to handle. When he does line up against someone who can get a hand on him, you really get to see his strength shine. Effortlessly pushing players back while still heading directly for the ball carrier. Coming off a year with seven sacks and ten hurries, Tongauiha could see those numbers take a big jump as he works through his senior year.
