Scout’s Notes: Linebackers
Leading off today is Pinelands Regional linebacker Eric Kobilnyk Eric Kobilnyk 5'10" | 170 lbs | LB Pinelands | 2026 NJ . Kobilnyk, who is finishing up his sophomore season, is a prospect that does many things well and has good upside given how much room – and time – he has to grow. First, Kobilnyk high points the ball very well. This enables him to gain an edge on his matchup in the passing game, timing his leap well and setting in front of more than a few passes. He also has quick feet, which helps him beat his man to a particular spot in the field. With his pad level appearing to be low, Kobilnyk has the potential to be the lower man on any given tackle. Lastly, Kobilnyk moves well. He does have an opportunity to continue to loosen his hips to change direction better and knock a few ticks off of his forty – but who doesn’t, right?…. Nicholas Medina Nicholas Medina 6'0" | 240 lbs | LB Holy Spirit | 2025 NJ out of Holy Spirit looks to be a throwback, thumper of a mike ‘backer. With tremendous size, Medina has the potential to de-cleat anyone when he gets a running start. As big of a body that Medina possesses he did have surprisingly quick feet, feet much quicker than I expected. In competition this allowed him to be in good position when covering and he was able to win the downhill battle to most spots during cat-and-mouse drills.
Hailing from Burlington Township is Jordan Wimberly Jordan Wimberly 5'10" | 185 lbs | LB Burlington Township | 2026 NJ , a 2026 linebacker. Wimberly has solid hips. He is able to flip them well for his position and age, allowing him to change direction, play leverages, and is a general marker of good athleticism. Two things that I think Wimberly can do to maximize his physical gifts are improve his flexibility in his hamstrings and waist – doing so will allow him to get lower, bend, and be in superior position to break down and tackle. Being a current sophomore and this likely being his first taste of competition since November, I want to see Wimberly force the issue and attack a bit more. A few times during drills he broke down and moved laterally; I would much rather see him get down hill and attack the nearside hip of the ball carrier….. Moving over to Washington Township, where fellow sophomore linebacker Markeith Carr Markeith Carr 5'7" | 165 lbs | LB Washington Township | 2026 NJ calls home, Carr showed promise of upside as well. I thought that Carr was able to change directions and was able to get going in any direction very well. Part of what I think made him so effective at this was how he could break down and get low with ease. In doing so he chopped his feet and got to his spots in a hurry.
The last linebacking prospect, and one that all the college coaches seemed to agree was atop the leaderboard, was Colin Obser Colin Obser 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Point Boro | 2025 NJ from Point Pleasant. Obser showcased a multitude of outstanding physical characteristics, so much so that he stood out like a sore thumb amongst his contemporaries within his position group. Starting with his hips, Obser’s hips were the most fluid amongst the linebacking corps. This aided him as he moved well in all directions and when getting to his drops. He also can clearly bend well, as evidenced by him maintaining a very good, consistent pad level throughout all phases of competition. His feet were outstanding well, which helped him beat his man to the spot numerous times. Lastly, Obser possesses soft hands that allowed him to intercept numerous passes with ease and showcased power when simulating blitz pickup.
