is the definition of a well-rounded linebacker who can impact the game from multiple positions on the field. Whether he’s lined up as an edge rusher, playing in the box, or dropping back near the safeties, Colin has proven to be a versatile and instinctual defender who can wreak havoc in any situation.
What stands out immediately about Colin is his ability to read and react. His football IQ and anticipation allow him to diagnose plays before they develop, making him a consistent presence in the backfield and at the point of attack. Colin is equally effective in coverage, showing great awareness and being in the right place at the right time to disrupt passing lanes.
One of Colin’s standout traits is his effectiveness as a blitzing linebacker. His film is filled with examples of him timing his blitzes perfectly and creating turnovers and big plays in those moments. This ability to bring pressure and force mistakes adds a valuable dimension to his game, making him a dangerous weapon for any defensive scheme.
At 6’0” and with his athleticism and instincts, Colin has all the tools to thrive at the collegiate level. He currently holds offers from Bentley and St. Anselm, recognizing his potential to be a standout player. Colin’s versatility, football IQ, and knack for making game-changing plays make him a must-watch prospect who will undoubtedly make an impact at the next level.

and I crossed paths about three times this camp season. A standout amongst college coaches in attendance, Obser was often the one linebacker that was talked about the most. On film we see the Point Boro prospect is able to bend the corner well, aided by his explosive initial first step. Obser is also able to set the edge nicely by hard jointing and forcing plays back inside; conversely, when asked to spill he dips his shoulder and rips to evade and get inside of trappers. Tackling-wise, this prospect is a very good wrapper who also maintains his feet through contact. An agile prospect, Obser can recover after making a poor read against option.

Colin Obser, a versatile athlete standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 205 pounds, epitomizes the “do-it-all” mentality on the gridiron. From lining up as a tight end to seamlessly transitioning to roles as a fullback, running back, outside linebacker, and edge rusher, Opser demonstrates his versatility in a myriad of ways. His impact extends beyond scrimmage, contributing significantly on special teams as well. What sets Obser apart is not just his imposing size, but also his remarkable athleticism and awareness, particularly evident when he operates as a tight end. He displays exceptional ball-tracking ability, making tough catches down the field and showcasing unwavering concentration in critical game situations. Moreover, Obser excels as a blocker, leveraging his physicality and technique to pave the way for his teammates on the ground. Defensively, he disrupts opponents’ plans with his adept blitzing off the edge and staunch edge-setting abilities against the run. With Obser’s multifaceted skill set and undeniable impact on the field, it’s inevitable that college programs will take notice. I anticipate a surge of interest and offers rolling in for Obser following the culmination of the 2024 New Jersey high school football season.

What caught my eye about Obser is how well he moved, in particularly with a wide base. More so than his contemporaries, Obser’s base did not get narrow as he was drawn to assignments or changed directions. He appears to keep his athletic stance/football position throughout everything he does on the field.

is ready to pounce on ball carriers this upcoming season for the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers. Last fall Obser was credited with 33 tackles and 1 sack.
The first thing I noticed on film about Obser is that he appears to have a strong, sturdy frame. Perhaps he is bigger than what is listed? Although he has a great get off on the LOS, Obser is also asked to split out over #2 against twin sets where he looks to get hands on and jam his matchup. It appears that Obser plays his to his scheme. On one play it looked like the Panthers sent double-edge pressure off the backside for option (inside man pursues the give, outside man pursues the keep). Obser was disciplined in tackling his assignment. An underrated thing Obser does against perimeter screens is that he works through the blocker, rather than around him. This creats a bubble for the receiver to run around, slow his feet, and help pursuit follows. More film of Obser stuffing the run would be a plus to an already promising tape.
As you will find out in short order, Obser is not the only rising sophomore at LB for Point Pleasant Boro. That said, the future is promising for this young defensive unit.
