Scout’s Notes: Defensive Line
Leading off today are two underclass, defensive line prospects out of Easter Regional – Anthony Pryor Anthony Pryor 5'10" | 230 lbs | DL Eastern Regional | 2026 NJ (’26) and Michael Johnson Michael Johnson DL Eastern Regional | 2027 NJ (’27). Starting with the elder Anthony Pryor Anthony Pryor 5'10" | 230 lbs | DL Eastern Regional | 2026 NJ , he showed a few characteristics indicative of a prospect ready to pop. Pryor remained active with his hands throughout the event. Also, he had a good rip to the inside and used it with regularity. Perhaps most importantly though, Pryor showed that he was able to get his hips around at various moments. Getting his hips around with as much regularity as he uses his hands will mean big problems for the opposition….. Michael Johnson Michael Johnson DL Eastern Regional | 2027 NJ is a bit more raw than his older line mate Pryor. He has the right idea in much of what he does, seeing and reacting to what occurs in front of him. However, the next time I see Johnson I want him to make the correct reaction to what happens in front of him. As the old adage I picked up in a clinic years ago goes, “Swim a square shoulder/rip a turned shoulder.” In this case, I noticed Johnson try to swim the shoulders of an offensive lineman who was tilted and shoulders were not parallel to the line of scrimmage.
Lacey’s Michael Seeley Michael Seeley 6'1" | 270 lbs | DL Lacey | 2025 NJ profiled more as an interior defensive line prospect based off of his size (6’1″ 270lbs). That said, Seeley had good feet for someone who was a bit heavier. Seeley was able to move his feet quickly, allowing himself to beat some matchups to the spot when pass rushing. He motored and moved well too….. Making the long trip down from Union County, Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s Derek Vazquez Derek Vazquez 5'11" | 215 lbs | DL Scotch Plains-Fanwood | 2025 NJ showcased strong fundamental abilities. Vazquez possesses a textbook stance. That same stance generates power from the ground. This same power comes across to the naked eye as a great get off and ability to jump his offensive matchup.
