Continue ReadingThe circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend Coach Nick Pennisi’s PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event’s standouts. As I feverishly wrote notes, here are my scouting notes from the position group disclosed in this article’s title.
PSR BIG Camp Series Event Coverage
Scout’s Notebook: Linebackers
Paterson Eastside’s Sean Neal Sean Neal 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Eastside | 2025 NJ is the first linebacker who was of note at the PSR BIG Camp Series. At 215lbs, Neal is probably a bit on the heaver side as far as linebackers go. As running backs ran deeper routes, we were reminded of an ever-present inherent flaw in camps as, Neal struggled a bit to keep stride with them. However, Neal appears to have discovered how use his size to his to his advantage in such situations. Neal was able to use his long arms to break up those deep pass attempts….. Coming up from Paul VI was Elijah Wilson Elijah Wilson 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Paul VI | 2025 NJ . Wilson competed and fought all throughout the afternoon, winning as many matchups as running backs put on him as well. Wilson can improve his performance as his footwork improves. A few times I thought I noticed him getting caught flat footed. This second’s hesitancy was just enough for some of the better backs in the camp to create separation.
Sean O’Neill
Sean
O’Neill
5'11" | 195 lbs | LB
Somerville | 2025
NJ
was one of several prospects form Somerville to compete. Although I may have noit caught much of him, there was one particular play that O’Neill converted on that was very impressive. As this matched up running back ran a route that was near the sideline, O’Neill got his head around, was able to run, broke off his coverage as the ball was released and stepped in front of the ball where he had to lay out and totally extend for it. An athletic, instinctual, and highly impressive play to say the least….. A really good cover linebacker is
Jacob Tobias
Jacob
Tobias
6'0" | 195 lbs | DB
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional Highschool | 2025
NJ
from Rumson-Fair Haven. In a subtle, somewhat sneaky way, Tobias influenced the routes of his matchup time and time again. He was handsy, but not to the point of holding or grabbing cloth. Further, Tobias would use his body to cut off angles and give gentle nudges, almost suggesting, where the receiver should run his route.
I saw a side of Point Pleasant’s
Colin Obser
Colin
Obser
6'0" | 215 lbs | LB
Point Boro | 2025
NJ
‘s game that I had not yet previously seen at the PSR BIG Camp Series. When covering the routes of running backs’, Obser used his hands much more than I recently recall to jam his matchup within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. Another thing I noticed was that he brought about as much strength as you can to a shirt-and-shorts camp. Obser fought through cheap contact, such as push offs, to maintain covering proximity to the offensive player……
Anwar Witherspoon
Anwar
Witherspoon
6'2" | 185 lbs | LB
St. Thomas Aquinas | 2026
NJ
from St. Thomas Aquinas is a prospect that that had great size. At 6’2″ 200lbs, he has the size potential to play a number of positions at the collegiate level. What I saw in person, however, is that he may just be better suited with his hand in the dirt. Witherspoon was, to say the very least, physical with each and ever rep he took – albeit a way too physical. Often I would see him run into, grab, and hold his matchup. Given his size and the way he used his hands I think he might have a home as an edge player.
