Continue ReadingThe circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend Coach Nick Pennisi’s PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event’s standouts. As I feverishly wrote notes, here are my scouting notes from the position group disclosed in this article’s title.
PSR BIG Camp Series Event Coverage
Scout’s Notebook: Defensive Line
The first of two underclassmen who stood was Brayden Duckworth Brayden Duckworth 6'2" | 260 lbs | DL Belvidere | 2026 NJ from Belvidere. The current sophomore showed good mobility and change of direction during the L-Drill. Duckworth got from cone-to-cone quickly, was able to get low bending to touch the cone, moved tight to the cone, and exploded down hill quickly….. JC McEvily JC McEvily 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Red Bank Catholic | 2027 NJ could be one of the next top defensive linemen to come from Red Bank Catholic. What makes McEvily’s ceiling so high is that he had very quick feet for a prospect of his stature and age. He routinely was able to beat his matchup to his spot. Additionally, McEvily hit the club/swim combo a few times.
The next two prospects are out of the Big Central Conference. Elizabeth’s
Elian Salazar

, who kicked off camp season by taking home positional MVP honors at the Iron Peak Combine Series, demonstrated that he can certainly hold his own and compete with the best. Salazar’s performance improved as the day went on and he got more and more reps. On one particular play, Salazar used the long arm, grabbed cloth at the neck’s v, clenched, and turned his wrist upward to dominate his matchup. Adding insult to injury, Salazar then snatched/clubbed past the helpless offensive lineman. Salazar brings size, speed, and a good get off; as he works to activate his hips more, he could be in store for a big season….. Although I have not officially scouted Woodbridge’s
Jose Tejeiro

just yet on film, I did watch a few clips. What I saw on those few clips were confirmed by what I saw in person. Tejeiro moves very well, and extremely well what changing direction. I made this observation during agility drills, as he was able to cut, get down hill, and weave without any issues. This physical attribute carried over to 1-on-1 competition as well. I saw Tejeiro feature stutter/hesitations and eurosteps to win his reps. One thing I want to see Tejeiro improve though is his pad level.

of Paul VI, the two trenchmen had something else in common – outstanding rip moves. What I loved about how both these prospects executed their rips, honestly, is that they execute it just the way I coach it. The two defensive linemen worked to grab grass, exaggerated their follow through with violence, tried to “punch their own ear,” and worked to turn the corner on turned shoulders.
