Alabama RB Report: 5 Risers, 5 Sleepers

Alabama is chalked full of high floor, physical runners that are eager for opportunities at the next level. He is listed at 5'9 210 with a low center of gravity. He flashes elite contact balance as a runner, pinballing off tackles and running through arms as he climbs the defense. He plays with good patience and pace, letting his blocks develop before he speeds up his feet and bounces through openings. His feet are always moving, which allows him to bounce the ball outside and make subtle changes within the running lane when needed. Mabson might not be the athlete that some other RBs are, but he is light on his feet, patient, and explosive enough to take advantage of openings. While his pace is calm, he can open up his stride and outrun defenders to the endzone. He is also sudden enough to put his foot in the ground to make subtle movements and get vertical. Sparks ran 11.1 this spring in the 100M, and has run 10.79 on an outdoor track. He has quite an arsenal of moves when he needs to create his own yards, flashing the light-footedness to juke across the frame of tacklers and can hit tacklers with a spin as well. He can stop on a dime and plays with good spatial awareness, both allowing him to pinpoint and take advantage of cutback lanes. On tape, he can make things happen as a receiver as well. Jordan runs an 11.3 in the 100M, but his start-stop skills and twitchiness open up cutback opportunities that most RBs don't have access to, which is the basis of intrigue around him. He plays squared to running lanes and keeps his feet moving while scanning for open running lanes. When he finds a lane, he can quickly open up his stride and take the yards available. He is fluid in the hips and a bouncy runner, allowing him to make subtle cuts and jump across defenders into new running lanes, generating weak tackling attempts and piecing his way through each level of defense. He is more than just a u0022cloud of dustu0022 runner. He has explosive, unpredictable footwork that causes tacklers to freeze or over pursue. He possesses the breakaway speed needed to explode through openings and outrun angles to the endzone. Factor in willingness as a blocker and experience as a receiver across several levels, and McWilliams is an every down option at RB with a physical edge. When he arrives to the second level, he can pick apart several defenders with his feet, stepping on their toes and timing his cuts perfectly to dodge tacklers. He is a fluid runner, allowing him to weave in and out of running lanes and search for optimal angles. He does flash a physical edge when needed, willfully absorbing contact and fighting to create more yards. There isn't a whole lot of weaving, and mostly because he doesn't have to. He quickly gets up to his top speed, leaving tacklers in the rearview and building up enough horsepower to stay on his feet through contact. He makes strong cuts, tossing up grass and creating divots when he plants to redirect his body north. Wilson is an explosive runner that can explode through openings and maintain his top speed as he breaks the tape. He has enough burst and change of direction to create his own yards and find open running lanes. When he gets going downhill and is faced with contact, he runs even harder and can willfully add a few yards to the end of every run. He has impressive cutback and peripheral vision, which he uses to weave in the open field and stay away from chasing tacklers. He is fluid and bendy in the hips, which when paired with his balanced running style and ability to absorb contact, it allows him to recover well and work his way out of tight situations. When having to redirect, he calmly bounces the play the other way and scans for new running lanes. Between the tackles, he is a slippery runner that makes himself even skinnier. He won't be a bruiser, but he can take the yards available between the tackles.
