As most coaches put the final adjustments in place for this fall, many of the starting positions and a hefty portion of the bench support will be populated with experienced juniors and seniors. The guys who have been out on the turf on a hot Friday night, beneath the heavy glare of the evening spotlights, under the scrutiny of coaches, fans and family, competing when it counts.

There are a few sophomores who are able to scratch and claw their way into some playing time, and even fewer freshman; but they are the outliers. At the big schools in particular, where the rosters are deep and the competition plentiful, getting noticeable experience and exposure is particularly difficult.

In this report I wanted to highlight a few of those outliers from the class of 2027 who have already launched their high school careers in impressive form, and then introduce some rising talent who are getting ready to bust out this fall.

So, without further adieu, I bring you the "End-of-the-Week Five" representing the class of 2027:

[player_tooltip player_id='944909' first='Gus' last='Corsair'], 6'3, 295, OL/C, Hays, is currently ranked #6. He is the highest ranked player in this report and is coming off an outstanding freshman season when he not only started, but played well enough to be named all conference and first team all state (non-senior). He is a huge presence in the middle and this year will be called on to wall off any defenders trying to take down the high-flying Hays passing attack of [player_tooltip player_id='904445' first='Zane' last='Viegra'], 6'3, 195, QB ('26) to [player_tooltip player_id='283949' first='Jarek' last='Purdy'], 6'0, 175, WR ('26). He is a mauler of a blocker in the trenches, with a powerful base and heavy hands that he uses effectively to get under defender pads. He has good feet for his size, moves well blocking in space and is a crushing blocker in the run game. He also plays with an aggressive mindset, going snap to whistle with the the end result usually being a piledriving pancake block. Get out and see a rising star in the trenches.

[player_tooltip player_id='637193' first='Brekston' last='Young'], 6'0, 165, QB, Eisenhower, is ranked #69. He is another young gun quarterback who hit the rankings and is busy with the 7v7-camp-clinic circuit this off-season. He has already made enough of a name for himself to be included in the @qbhitlist Top 200 as both a pocket and dual-threat QB. He will also greatly benefit learning under one of the best QB-WR tandems in the state in QB [player_tooltip player_id='676467' first='Derek' last='Morgan'], 6'2, 195 ('25) to WR [player_tooltip player_id='442660' first='Carter' last='Pabst'], 6'1, 185, ('25). He has a live arm and can make all the throws, from slinging missiles in the short-to-intermediate game to excellent launch and velocity on the long ball. He has a smooth compact throwing motion and appears to be able to throw off platform and from different arm angles. He is on an excellent trajectory for greatness, get out and see him take his game to the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1263895' first='Jordan' last='Lockett'], 5'11, 160, WR/DB, Blue Valley HS, is currently unranked. He is coming off a good start to his high school career last fall giving the Sunflower state a peek at what is to come. He is a two-way, multi-positional player who can play just about anywhere skill sets are needed. On offense he is moved around to force mismatches, as he flanks out wide, lines up split on the weak side and occasionally in the slot. He gets off the line efficiently, with a good variety of stutter-step and shake-and-bake moves that he uses in conjunction with his burst and acceleration to gain separation. He runs good routes, has reliable hands and is dangerous in the open field and as a return man. On defense he is a ball-hawking safety with great closing speed who tackles well in the open field and lowers the boom when he arrives. Get your popcorn out for this guy, he is a highlight reel ready to happen.

[player_tooltip player_id='1362958' first='Levi' last='McLaughlin'], 6'3, 185, DB/WR, Rose Hill, is currently unranked. He is off and running on his high school career looking to eclipse his brother [player_tooltip player_id='1611281' first='Luke' last='McLaughlin'], a former all-state performer who went on to play safety for the Pittsburg State Gorilla's. Little bro appears to have the same DNA and is getting ready to take off like a rocket this fall. He has been hard at it, training this off-season with legendary Coach James Tabor of @PIAthletes. He is a two-way player with a prototype frame and athleticism that enables him to play multiple positions. He really excels as a WR/DB combo who is long and versatile, with an outstanding catch-or-contest radius, great hands and next-level football instincts. He has excellent burst and acceleration and his closing speed in tracking the football is impressive. Get out and see a rising star in the making or at least get him on your watchlist this fall. You will not be disappointed.

[player_tooltip player_id='1585525' first='Cooper' last='Glasscock'], 5'9, 155, RB/DB, Goddard, is currently unranked. He is another multi-positional, two-way player who scratched the surface last year but is getting prepped to make a statement this fall. On offense, he is lined up all over the formation, as an H-back, a running back, on the wing, or in the slot, to get him the ball in a variety of reverses, trap backs and sweeps where he can use his speed and acceleration to get into the secondary in a flash. He has a low-center of gravity and quick feet that he uses to pick his way through traffic and once he hits daylight seems to shift into another getaway gear. On defense he can play any of the defensive back positions, using his top-end read and react skills and closing speed to track receivers closely. His straight-line speed and ability to shift gears to create or close on separation should be a serious weapon for the Lions. Get out and see a kid ready to roar this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys in action or get them on your watchlist. And, as always, keep me posted on anyone flying under the radar. Send any deserving prospects my way via DM on X.
