I was very excited to attend my first 7v7 tournament of the season, and I was not disappointed. At the Nebraska 7v7 tournament, I saw Nebraska-based teams from Omaha, Lincoln, and Aurora while also getting some looks at teams from Iowa and Missouri.
Coach Tank Perry has been busy building up the Nebraska 7v7 tournament circuit to help bring exposure to Nebraska athletes here on our own home turf. The Battle for the Monarch Crown was one of a few tournaments coming up in the NE7v7 series.
The next team up is NESELECT7EVEN which featured some great talent from around the Omaha area. Here are my four standouts.
Derek Jones Derek Jones 5'7" | 185 lbs | RB Papillion-La Vista South | 2026 State NE | 2026 | RB/DB | Papillion-La Vista South | 5’8″ 185 lbs
– PL South’s Derek Jones Derek Jones 5'7" | 185 lbs | RB Papillion-La Vista South | 2026 State NE continued to show why he’s one of the top RBs in the 2026 class with an elite, versatile skill set.
– Runs routes like a receiver and is versatile enough to be moved around anywhere on the field. He can run routes out of the backfield, line up in the slot, or play as the outside receiver.
– Very twitchy with the ball in his hands. Derek flashed his ability to make defenders miss in open space and has the burst to outrun defender’s angles.
– Creates separation very well.
– Sneaky speed. Got behind defenses on several occasions and burned them for long gains.
Keith Hamby Keith Hamby 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Papillion-La Vista South | 2025 State NE | 2025 | DB/WR | Papillion-La Vista South | 6’2″ 190 lbs
– Fast riser who could be pushing for the DB1 spot in the 2025 class by the time the season starts.
– Good size at 6’2″ and 190 pounds with solid length!
– Keith’s quick instincts and speed allow him to cover a good chunk of the field, showing sideline-to-sideline range and the ability to get depth in coverage.
– Embraces physicality and is aggressive when the ball is in the air.
– Hamby also looked great at receiver where he made some incredible catches requiring top tier body control and concentration.
Kenyann Hunt Kenyann Hunt 6'2" | 170 lbs | TE Bellevue West | 2025 NE | 2025 | ATH | Papillion-La Vista South | 6’2″ 205 lbs
– Good mix of size and athleticism which allows him to play a fluid role on defense. He can match up well with bigger bodied receivers/TEs and has the quickness to tag onto quicker receivers/backs.
– Moves very well and can close on the ball quickly.
– Takes good angles when closing in on the ball carrier. Didn’t get to see Kenyann tackle anyone on Saturday, but I can imagine the power he can put into his tackles when he has the pads on.
– Doesn’t hesitate to get his hands dirty and pressure receivers off the line or challenge for the ball in the air.
Alexzander Fisher-Teko | 2025 | ATH | Papillion-La Vista South | 6’0″ 180 lbs
– Versatile player. Saw Alex be a receiving asset coming out of the backfield and lined up along the line of scrimmage and sent into motion.
– Defensively Alex proved to be a smart player who is quick to recognize routes and does a great job communicating necessary shifts in coverage.
– Good hands and does a great job turning up field and exploding for extra yardage.
– Looking forward to seeing all the different ways Alex is used next season.
