But the class is still early in its development in terms of both individuals’ athletic development and the overall development of the class with more players gaining eligibility, earning opportunities and breaking out.
Here’s a look at eight names outside the top 30 on the initial list who we expect to see more of this year and who may quickly prove themselves deserving of some movement up the list much sooner than later.
Ansinneo Charles Jr. Ansinneo Charles Jr. 6'4" | 195 lbs | TE Lafayette Renaissance | 2027 State LA — 6-4, 195 TE — Lafayette Renaissance
Another tall, long athlete who stood out this past offseason on the 7-on-7 circuit and at college camps before even beginning his ninth-grade year, Charles and his ball skills and athleticism remain listed at tight end at the moment, though he also has some early highlights at defensive end.
Jaylen Haywood Jaylen Haywood 6'7" | 265 lbs | OL Amite | 2027 State LA — 6-7, 265 OL — Amite
The highest-ranked of three offensive linemen in this initial list for the 2027 class, the Warriors’ young blocker’s big frame stood out this past summer at LSU camp even prior to his freshman year, and he appeared to move well on his reps at the event. Haywood will be a player to check out during our next trip to Tangipahoa Parish.
DeCaleb Green DeCaleb Green 6'5" | 175 lbs | DL State LA — 6-5, 175 DL — Lutcher
Prep Redzone Louisiana hasn’t had a chance yet to see the Bulldogs’ long, lean defensive lineman in person, but the combination of early football, basketball and track footage available made clear that he warranted strong consideration on this initial list.
Jayden Miles Jayden Miles 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Catholic (Baton Rouge) | 2027 State LA — 6-1, 205 RB — Catholic (Baton Rouge)
The then-eighth-grader’s tall, strong build already stood out among his Bears’ always-good running back crew during our visit this past spring, and a few 7-on-7 clips already this spring appear to show some intriguing ability as a pass-catcher as well. But this year should provide much more opportunity to see Miles in action.
Jacori Platt Jacori Platt 5'11" | 200 lbs | QB Central (Baton Rouge) | 2027 State LA — 5-11, 200 QB — Central (Baton Rouge)
Let the Wildcats’ multisport standout with the big arm serve as the official welcome, at least in these initial rankings, to the remarkably promising quarterback crop in Louisiana’s 2027 class. Platt is one of a half-dozen passers in the top 25 and, though he is scheduled to develop another year behind a senior starter, is already a name worth knowing.
Tony Crump Jr. Tony Crump Jr. 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Destrehan | 2027 State LA — 5-11, 180 RB — Destrehan
Another big running back already with good college measurables, the limited footage thus far on Crump — both in pads and on the 7-on-7 circuit — also shows some promising speed in the open field and receiving ability out of the backfield or split out. Destrehan is always on our schedule, and the Wildcats’ continued wealth of talent should make for another fun season.
Kaden Leonard Kaden Leonard 6'3" | 300 lbs | OL Berwick | 2027 State LA — 6-4, 295 OL — Berwick
Another of the apparent top offensive line prospects early in the development of Louisiana’s 2027 class. Leonard’s early film at left guard show the freshman seeming getting off the line well and already mauling defensive linemen and finishing his blocks.
Bryson Phoenix Bryson Phoenix 6'2" | 210 lbs | ATH Pineville | 2027 State LA — 6-2, 210 ATH — Pineville
Phoenix was on Prep Redzone Louisiana’s first 2027 watch list last summer heading into freshman year as an “athlete” — potentially a running back, tight end or linebacker. But the clips of three reps this spring show an intriguing, explosive edge rusher who may quickly prove himself underrated in these first rankings once we get a chance to see him in person.
