It’s possible that no rising senior OL in the state is having a more impactful off-season than Crescent’s Jake Duncan Jake Duncan 6'1" | 300 lbs | DL Crescent | 2025 State SC . He won the GRIT award at the Joanne Langfit Junior Showcase, and his performance at the Charleston regional U.S. Army Bowl combine earned him an invitation to that game. His performance in Sunday morning’s segment of the Carolinas Coaches Combine was just more of the same.
Duncan boasts a huge physical presence and all the measurables you want to see, but he truly makes an impact in drills and in the competition portion of events. The first thing you notice is his feet, as he moves almost impossibly well for his size. When called upon to pull, he gets to the edge or the second level in a hurry, and initiates violent contact. He’s a two-way lineman who projects to center at the next level, but he’s nearly as good on the defensive side of the ball. In competition, he thoroughly swallowed up and neutralized an opposing DL, then turned around to play NG and won that rep as well.
In other standout competition performances:
QBs Tucker Hendrix Tucker Hendrix 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Christ Church | 2025 State SC of Christ Church and Jordan Sink Jordan Sink 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Woodmont | 2025 State SC of Woodmont both looked great in the competition segment. Both have big arms and had no problems making every throw, and both looked exceptional on deep balls, often putting throws where their receivers could go and make a play, but well away from defenders.
Duncan wasn’t the only OL to turn some heads. Gaffney’s Shedrick Sarratt Shedrick Sarratt 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Gaffney | 2025 State SC looked good enough to earn overall MVP honors at the combine. Walhalla’s Connor Talley is a big, physical player who looked particularly good in pulling drills and in competition. Belton-Honea Path’s Oliver Marett Oliver Marett 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Belton Honea Path | 2025 SC has quick feet and good speed for his size, and Mauldin’s Trey Moon had a good day in drills, moving well and playing with impact. And Greenwood’s Robert Stevens put up 41 reps on the bench press at 185 pounds.
On the defensive line, Dereon Collins from Travelers Rest showed some raw power in one-on-one drills. Greenwood’s Shuvioues Williams was another player who seemed to win a bunch more matchups than he lost in the competition portion.
Dorman’s Keenan Arcega-Whiteside and Spartanburg’s Justin Rice both turned in exceptional performances. Arcega-Whiteside used his size and stride to achieve easy separation against pretty much anyone he was matched up against, hauling in a number of long receptions. Rice made a couple of circus catches, including a one-hander down the sideline on one of his first competition reps.
A ton of LBs and DBs looked good, with Daniel’s Spencer Conn Spencer Conn 5'11" | 215 lbs | LB Daniel | 2025 State SC heading the list. He’s a tackle machine, but he looked great in coverage against some of the state’s best, turning in a PBU and being in the right place almost constantly. Gaffney’s Andrew Ruppe Andrew Ruppe 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Gaffney | 2025 State SC continues to be a menace at LB. Daniel’s Jamarion Williams was the closest thing to a lock-down corner in the morning session, knocking away a couple of passes and forcing incompletions with tight coverage. Chapman’s Shamon Black Shamon Black 5'9" | 165 lbs | DB Chapman | 2025 State SC looked good in coverage, winning top defensive back honors as well as the broad jump and 40-yard dash measurables segments.
